Heroin would be legal by your definition. ...

So? Heroin is much more benign than meth. Also, heroin is not God's Gift. It is manmade, God's Gift refined. This gift in its morphine form is true compassion for dying people.

"Heroin is much more benign than meth."

Pot and heroin have been around for ages and each have their pros and cons. Meth is relatively new and look at the havoc! There are small towns all around Alabama that are falling apart around it. My Husband employs a fella who is recovering from literally losing everything but his life, including the pension he wasn't far from getting, because of meth. This guy was an average Joe (or above average as he was deservingly, before meth, employed within our national defense system...ie someone who shoulda known better, but needed something to help him pull longer shifts).

Society has managed to do pretty well, IMHO, with marijuana, herion, cocaine and even its evil spawn crack, floating around for many years. Meth is blowing in and changing the face of drug culture and is undermining our society right under our noses and we need to focus folks! It's not some herb that can be grown on your deck (and not feed the $$ machine) or even one of my personally most disliked drugs, alcohol, that is going to have the most lasting ill effects on our society..its this crap called meth...makes everything else look like bubblegum.

You'll find folks who have been contributing members of society while using herion for 20+ years, as well as lifelong users of marijuana... you'll never meet a longtime user of meth, as they implode (and their labs explode in our neighborhoods) in a relatively short period of time. A methhead trying to recover once told me something to the effect "you don't experiment with meth, you do it and then devote your life to getting more of it".

Sorry to rant. Not since crack came along has a drug had such a devestating effect on society, IMHO. We need to see the tree and stop focusing on the forest! Re: morphine... I watched my dad die in pain while waiting for his medical staff to jump thru all the hoops to get him some relief.
