1) If the gub'ment owes you money, they should give it back & right now. It's not theirs.
2) They should treat you equally. As other citizens. I AGREE!
In fact, you should all be made citizens!
Revoke the Sovereign status of the reservations (which was a crime -- a human rights violation of the first order) and have you all equal under the law. Would you voluntarily relinquish the reservation system we know today for a future that has no BIA? Equal political power as citizens? The money that was kept from you (for "your own good", no doubt) returned so that you can make of it what you will?
The flip side, of course is that you would have the responsibilities of citizenship (too numerous to post here).
Looks like you & I agree my friend. How's sez you?
ps: Who said I was white?

1.EXACTLY (except that the $$$$$$$ in the TRUST FUND "mysteriously disappeared" during the misrule of wee willie klintoon!)
2.THANKS! i really have no dog in the reservation fight, as we Cherokees don't have one. however, ending the reservation system is likely a good thing.
RWR suggested exactly what you've suggested in 1980. good idea then, good idea now.

fwiw, BIA stands for "Boss Indians Around".
some years ago, Wayne Newton offered to give the "startup money" for a "strip shopping center" to the Sioux Youth Fund, with the idea that they could "get on their feet" by running the various businesses therein.
the BIA sent Newton a letter telling him that Indians COULD NOT LEARN to run a shopping center & that he "should not waste his money". (i have seen a copy of the letter.)
can you imagine what the media would have said if that were said about ANY other racial/ethnic group????
