Immigration plan discouraged by GOP lawmakers

President Bush cannot push his guest-worker program for illegal immigrants and new foreign workers and still win reforms to Social Security or the tax code, congressional opponents said yesterday.

"There are a lot of ambitious plans, a lot of necessary reforms that need to take place, but this rush toward amnesty-light should not be one of the priorities," said Rep. J.D. Hayworth, Arizona Republican, who called himself a friend and political ally of the president, but said Mr. Bush's immigration proposal would hurt his broader legislative agenda.

"Amnesties for illegal aliens has always been Bush's priority"

That's a factually incorrect statement.

President Bush's guest worker proposal does not grant amnesty to anyone.

If President Bush wanted an amnesty, such as Reagan granted, he is the type of man who would say that he wanted an amnesty. He wouldn't lie.

Do you believe that you have some special right to lie about what President Bush's priorities are?

"if Bush wants a guest-worker program so badly, why don't we just make the "guest-workers" build the wall"

Because the guest workers are desperately needed elsewhere to keep our economy expanding despite global challenges.

Besides, with a guest worker program we won't need a wall.

Having been raised in the South during the era of the civil rights wars, I am familiar with Booker T. Washington. He was quoted often by the KKK.

I sure don't see you welcoming immigrants of any other race. It's a Raza thing with you --- if we need immigrants --- which we really don't --- we need a balanced immigration policy where a healthy mix is achieved. We should have equal numbers of Haitans, Mexicans, Polish, Vietnamese, Nigerians, Sudanese, Ugandans, etc.

Bayourod has made some pretty racist statements especially regarding blacks. People in glass houses shouldn't throw stones as they say.

We still do have quite a number of legal guest worker programs and other legal routes. The Mexican government is demanding that we create another system of "blue" cards --- tailor made for only it's citizens who don't respect our laws.

We were supposed to be a color-blind society, all ethnic groups equal under the eyes of the government and all that --- but the Mexican government is insisting that preference --- more than preference be given to it's unwanted citizens. Haitians to the back of the line, Chinese to the back of the line, Europeans to the back of the line --- this is a Mexican only plan. Devised by that corrupt oligarchy.

No they're not. And don't give me the "they do the jobs Americans won't do" line either...
Besides, with a guest worker program we won't need a wall.
Wrong again... you'll still need the wall because the illegals think the guest worker program is "amnesty." The program won't stop illegal immigration. The illegals will keep coming unless and until 2 things happen: 1. stronger border controls and 2. a better economy in Mexico so they'll stop coming here for work.

Bayourod --- your friends in the Mexican oligarchy just printed up a million and a half little how-to booklets --- they obviously do not believe Bush's plan will limit illegal immigration. Notice their book never mentioned waiting for some new Bush Guest Worker Amnesty. They're gearing up for far more illegal immigration to the USA.

"I sure don't see you welcoming immigrants of any other race."

Oh, but I do. Especially Punjabs. We have lots of Asians in Houston. In one area the street signs are in Vietnamese.

I'm not personally fond of the Muslims, but I do a lot of business with them. Having lived in a Muslim country helps me to quickly establish a working relationship of mutual respect; or else tell them to do something anatomically impossible.

Maybe they hope it won't get enacted?

I will say again that George Bush's love of open borders and slave labor jobs for his business cronies will eventually bring this country down.

It may not bring the country down. But it may mean Hillary in '08, and Democratic presidents for a generation following.

She will personally promise anything to get elected, as will her Lib minions, including riding the country of illegal immigrants. Of course, they won't do anything about it, but it sure will sound good on CNN.

The point of this article is that Advise and Consent works if done properly. Over time, there will be something. Do the easier things first, while figuring out the harder things for the future, like taking over Mexico. Our military in Iraq deserves a nice vacation fishing, drinking, chikas in Mexico when their job is done!

"Shouldn't be hard. 25% of them are already in prison."

At American taxpayers' expense.

Tancredo for President.

"The program won't stop illegal immigration. "

Why not? Why would an employer risk hiring an illegal when guest workers are available?

Why would a person risk dying in the dessert after paying a coyote thousands of dollars; risk being caught; and then not being able to get a job, when he could cross legally as a guest worker?

A guest worker program benefits all parties involved.

I find it amusing that the anti-immigration cabal on FR has been infiltrated by neo-nazis and bigots while you celebrate what you think is a growing political force.

True, but you forgot DU weenies and border union hacks.

And as for the Canadian border, I'm not as worried about it... the one we need to defend is the Mexican border because that's where most of the illegals get in.

You're not bright, newbie. You'll fit right in on these threads.

It's a sad state of affairs when the only reason the MSM mentions illegal immigration is because Republicans disagree with each other... I still thank you Tancredo.
