I'm not aware of any law in any society which makes rebellion or revolution legal. It is outside the bounds of law, just ask the Founding Father's.

Well, non-sequitur is correct!

No nation could allow itself to be broken up and survive.

The Founding Fathers saw that in ancient history this was the undoing of the city-states and early Republics.
