If one accepts that Conservative principles are smaller, less intrusive government, fiscal responsibility, and respect for states rights then there are no Southern conservatives today.

President Ronald W. Reagan was a democrat before changing parties. Be that as it may, I have yet to see one of the Wlat Brigade espousing 'smaller, less intrusive government, fiscal responsibility, and respect for states rights'. I have seen such comments by those on our side, and made such myself. I'm also religious, and place obedience to God first and foremost.

Funny. I have yet to see any of the southerners running the Republican party today espousing "smaller, less intrusive government, fiscal responsibility, and respect for state's rights" either. So I think that when it comes to your politicians the term 'southern conservative' is an oxymoron.

George Wallace used to call himself a "states' rights conservative" too. Next time you are in southern California, come visit the Reagan Library and find out what modern conservatism is all about.
