What does one do to market their books in these days of self publishing? Send publishers the sales records and the book instead of a script?
I did nearly 20 years in advertising and marketing, but never marketed books and imagine it's a different animal altogether.

For many, the formula is changed:
Get recognized!
Write the book, get published, grant interviews, write more books, et cetera.
Would anyone have ever read Madonna's books had she not been Madonna first?
What about Ted Kazinski's or Al Gore's manifestos? Fame or infamy first, then pen to paper...
Publishers these days are awash in offerings and have little incentive to assist the novice. If you don't have your name made yet, they'll publish your book, if you pay them to do it. Then all you have to do is sell it.
Oddly, many introverted, bookish types who are very good at writing do not have the extroverted, ebullient people skills to hawk their wares effectively. Go figure!
You're asking me what does one do? I wish I knew!
