Thanks for the review, tiamat! Definitely will watch for this in the library. I liked Gene Wilder as Willy Wonka, but didn't care for the movie all that much.
Johnny Depp is a very original actor, always impressive in some way or other :-).
Hi, TC!
Yep. Johnny is "versatile".
My husband and I liked "Sleepy Hollow." So atmospheric!
Steven Greydanus at Decentfilms.com said it was dreadful. Jessica Alba is pretty, though.
I for one wouldn't have watched the lefist crap that was 'Dark Angel', if it weren't for Jess!!
Thanks for the review! Would you say this Wonka is too creepy for the elementary school set (7-10 yrs old)?
Hi, Timpad.
I'd say it depends on the kid?
When my daughter was that age (7-10) i would have taken her, but she likes odd, slightly creepy things.
If you have doubts, consider waiting til it comes out on DVD and renting it and doing a "private screening".
When we came out of the movie there were MANY children of the ages you describe, and they were all chattering happily. Nobody seemed scared.
Of course, the theatre had an actor dressed up as Willy Wonka (pretty effectively too) and HE was giving out free candy....
Opposites attract?
There is an "Edward Scissorhands" referance, but you have to be quick to catch it!
If there was a "Sleepy Hollow" referance, I did miss it.
Purely for artist reasons?
I haven't seen "Edward Scissorhands." Might be interesting some time.
Makes one wonder why mutual arrangements aren't made more often!
Are you into nekkid women yourself, do they have to shout 'YOY YOY YOY' first?
If you have Netflix, (whom I love) consider putting it in your list.
Strange and colorful, and it's full of topiary.
Topiary is cool. I'll get it from the library.
Yes.
Though lots of people think otherwise.
"It's all a ploy, isn't it?"
They are way too clever for me.
;-)
*chuckle*
Thanks for the review!
Roald Dahl is/was a personal favorite author. I always liked his style.
It's good to hear they were able to capture much of his vision.
Thanks, I'll bet the free candy went a long way toward enjoyment of the movie. Those I'm considering taking to see it like creepy as well, so I think we're there.
If they liked "Lemoney Snickett", this is better.
Is anyone around?
