Yes, you are exactly correct. I was just trying to show my liberal friend the parallels between that situation and the situation we faced in Iraq.
Hitler's Germany had not yet attacked the US, but he planned to. And we stopped him before he was allowed to do so.
The person arguing with me was saying that we should not be in Iraq to simply help the people, like we did in France during WWII. He said that like France, they will just hate us for it.
I am arguing that you have to eliminate fascism/Nazism/ whatever, before it hits you hard. The struggle we face in the middle-east is just another faze of fascism.
