UNITED NATIONS (Reuters) - The Bush administration has confidence in U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan and is not calling for his resignation, U.S. Ambassador John Danforth said on Thursday.
Several Republican congressmen have called for Annan's resignation, accusing him of presiding over corruption in the U.N. oil-for-food program for Iraq, administered by the United Nations but supervised by the 15-nation Security Council.
But Danforth said he was representing the opinion of the White House and the State Department in supporting Annan.
"We are expressing confidence in the secretary-general and his continuing in office," Danforth told reporters.
"No one to my knowledge has cast doubt on the personal integrity of the secretary-general. No one," Danforth said. "We have worked well with the secretary general. We anticipate working with him in the future."

oh and you need to pay closer attention because there are plenty of conservatives that agreed with the war but didnt think that would obligate us to hundreds of billions and thousands of lives in trying to put together another country.
Ok great, lets take your approach (the same approach as Dennis Kucinich, I might add) and get out of Iraq.
Then the people of that nation will hate America. They will say that we broke our promise. Many of them will be easily recruited by terrorists. The country will fall into anarchy and then eventually some dictator will take over. The entire middle east will drift further into turmoil and the threat of terrorists will have grown more grave.
Sounds like a great plan to me.
Actually Captain, you have NOT answered her questions.

How much,in today's dollars, did it cost us to set up Germany and Japan after WW II?
How many of our men died in WW II?
How long did it take for us to put down the WOLF PACK?
Are you older than 16? If so,are you younger than 30?
And you joined FR because?
Captain, you have NOT answered any of that, and NP is not the only one here who is suspicious of your age.
You are dodging.
You say what you want, ( some of the time) but you don't back your ideas up and/or tell us WHY you want them.
We do "Put up or Shut up", here.

My read?
He's a kid who has taken one poly-sci course and he seems to have forgotten his meds.
You can find better game! Or at least one that has a working cap-key!
There's GOT to be more to it than we are seeing.
Just the other day, the Administration was threatening to ysnk the UN's funding if Kofi didn't co-operate with the "Oil for Food" investigation.
The reasons we are in Iraq have been posted, for years,on FR and reiterating them, especially for you, only to have them all ignored, would be a waste of time. But here are a few reasons we are there and why you are so wrong about everything, that you have become a laughing stock.
The Middle East is composed of various tyrannical/despoticly/dictatoral nations, all of whom want Israel and the Jews gone.Saddam did, indeed, traffic with the terrorist...from al Qaeda to the nonaligned.By replacing the B'aathists, with a democratically elected president, will not only help us defeat those who spread terror in that area, but also on our shores.Iran, thanks to Jimmy Carter,is now a theocratic dictatorship, which it's populace is sick of and wants gone. With Iraq changed into a democratic Republic,it gives the Iranians hope for the same, shakes up the other nations in the area. And that's just for starters.
Vis-a-vis Germany and Japan after WW II,there are similarities and though you don't know any of this and are unable to discern just why it was incumbent upon us to do what we did back then and are doing right now,it would behoove you to delve into factual descriptions of same, which would, one would hope, disabuse you of your anachronistic, spuriously erroneous viewpoints.
Actually there was only four people who supported the war but did not agree with funding it--John Kerry and John Edwards are two of them. If you were a Senator I guess we could add you to the list as well.
Get real, when you fight a war, you will have to pay to repair the nation inwhich you invaded!
No,dear, and I got my Masters degree long before you were even born,I bet. ;^)
That's a REALLY good rant!
*chuckle*
Thanks.
Look,I've been here a long time...trolls and disruptors and those lonely souls who are rather more UNIBOMBER than Conservative, are easy to spot after a while. They just aren't worth the bother.
And yes,all the telltale signs are there;this is a kid .
No, I didn't mean from you. Sorry if it sounded lke that. I was meaning from the "captain."
Sorry for the confusion. It think you have made alot of great points.
That's good.
Actually Hillary isn't a lesbian because Reno isn't a women.
Just think of how thick this place will get when they all finsih exams and are home for three weeks with a modem and no adult supervision...
Gonna be grim.
Probably the Bush Administration knows that the effort to oust Annan is a ploy to get Bill Clinton in.
Didn't see your post before my comment, but I thought the same thing (support Annan, as a way of fending off Clinton).
For my part, I'll wait to see what Charles Krauthammer says about all of this....
"CaptainAwesome"...more like CaptainUnderwhelming.
