Wow. Never did I think I would suggest the United States should emulate anything Iranian. But, you have to admit, it does have its merits!!!

Fair enough.
Now if they'd just stop whacking their teenage girls for getting raped...

Yep - even third-world thug countries can do something that makes sense sometimes.
I have always been of the belief that we should expand the list of "capitol crimes" and bring back the gallows. When it takes 15+ years to execute those sentenced to die, something is wrong with the system.

Executing drug criminals, this is commendable.

I just have to wonder how many of those "drug traffickers" were actually missionaries and/or evangelists.....

Wow. Never did I think I would suggest the United States should emulate anything Iranian. But, you have to admit, it does have its merits!!! From the BBC article linked in post #17:
[begin excerpt]
Dr Arash Alaei runs a clinic in Tehran, where he caters for the growing number of drug addicts and prostitutes who are infected with the virus.
It takes him to parts of Iran which are never seen in the west, where junkies sprawl on streets littered with needles.
Iran has the highest proportion of hard drug users of any country in the world.
Some estimates put the number of users as high as three million - one in 20 of the population.
Junkies are a common site on the streets of the major cities. Prostitution, too, is commonplace.
