Interesting, he just described daytime talk shows. He's out there, but we are heading towards some, well I'll just say interesting times indeed. Warning, I'm about to rant for a few paragraphs - whenever I say "we" I mean this society as a whole, and not the individualsl here at FR reading this. I'm going into

While everybody is so worried about gays living together/getting married, the state of marriage among hetereosexuals is probably the lowest it's ever been. Our children are learning that marriage isn't a lifetime commitment, and that it's not a big deal, that adultery is normal. They learn this from TV, they learn this from our politicians, they learn this from the people they idolize (movie stars, athletes, etc.), they learn this from our neighbors, and maybe even ourselves. People worry about a few thousand or even a few tens of thousands of homosexuals getting married while millions and millions and millions of heterosexuals are trashing their marriage vows every single year and millions more are getting divorced.

While everybody is worried about what kids are being taught in the classrooms, kids are seeing more than ever on broadcast TV (the aforementioned talkshows, the reality shows, video games, etc. and parents don't give a damn because the TV has become a cheap babysitter.

Two or three decades from now when we are living in a more deviant society and wondering what happened, I'll tell you exactly what happened - we, as a society screwed up. We decided that it was better if we were our childrens' best friends, rather than their parents. We wanted to be cool, we wanted our children to like us, so we engaged in mini-popularity contests. We let them go out dressed like sluts and gangsters and trash because we didn't want to upset them or stiffle their personalities. We let them watch movies that were inappropriate, we gave them the money and the rides to these movies. We let them have their own computer in their own bedrooms where they could be easily exposed to things that were better left in the realm of adults. We let them break rules that we laid out, we let them hang out with inappropriate friends at inappropriate places at inappropriate times.

Everybody wants to take the easy way out and blame television, movies, homosexuals, liberals, etc., but the biggest problem in this country are parents - parents who would rather be friends with their kids than act like parents.

It's all part of the same thing.

Many parents just don't want to take the time, effort, trouble to discipline and teach their children - to show them real love. Real love means raising them properly. If a parent's idea of real life means instant gratification, he or she won't want to take time out from their own personal enjoyment to deal with kids the way they need.
