Part of me is curious, and part of me doesn't really care what the guy says, since one would have to think it would be designed to save his ass.

It is a confession after he claims the first man shot first over him..Some were cold blooded murder..according to his own words , whether he realizes it or not...and a bit of defense in shooting two others...he goes back and shoots a man he discovers isn't dead yet..IIRC
