What a typical defense of the slavers tyranny by pointing to injustices elsewhere. At present, unfortunately for your defensive tack, we are talking about the South so that defense is inrrelevent.

It is relevant if the argument is that the South is particularly racist. That the Battle Flag is a symbol of racism. That Southerners are racist. You can't argue that, now. Too much is known, thanks to nc's posts and those of other people.

You guys are playing "Spot" or "Blemish" very cynically with the South and the Civil War, and nc just pantsed you on it.

"Spot", yourself, Spot.

An aberration in the North in no way justifies a standard practice in the South and those laws were changed in the former as time went on.

Aberration my happy @ss. Stuff like that was widespread. And we're not talking about justification. What we are talking about is, your accusations are hypocritical and unfairly tendentious.

ROTF!! Accoring to him, all those African slaves sailed to Rhode Island and Massachusetts by themselves! And hundreds of thousands threw themseleves overboard during the Middle Passage. And stuck corks up their *** to hide their dysentary so that they could be sold. And then they continued the slave trade past the 1808 deadline all they way up to the WONA to continue the nefarious practice. "Aberration my happy @ss" is right!

Racism was a stain on the nation NORTH and SOUTH and don't try and tell me that I claim otherwise. However, the point is that the North was changing while the South was digging itself into a grave over slavery refusing to realistically evaluate its situation.

I am in no way playing "spot" or "blemish" I am stating outright that the South was trapped in an Evil institution which it defended to the last even though its defense meant throwing out the ideals of our Founders including those of the Region's greatest leaders. I condemn the whole culture and almost everything about it. It's social structure was destructive to all but the big planters, Its political structure was little short of an aristocracy or oligarchy. It lagged in education, innovation, and almost everything leading to decent existence for its people. Slavery's pernicious effects on the Nation can hardly be over-estimated its effects upon the South were devastating much worse than on the North. It undermined the work ethic of the whites and kept the poor whites in a sick of ignorance.

The "spots" there were the few good features standing in stark contrast to the horrible background.
