I don't particularly place any credibility in this as of yet, but if there are officers or NCOs using tactics as described herein, I want their stripes.
What gamble are you saying he's taken? That they won't allow him to leave and start a family at the end of his six years? That's a risk?
Shoot, is it "taking the risk" to turn 18 while the draft board is active? I mean, you sign up for a specific term, and then you're done. That's how it should be. Indentured servitude or slavery is wrong.
The draft, as used in the past, was wrong too.
WWI and WWII were exceptions. Vietnam wasn't so necessary as to require mandatory service and death for one's country.
