This is truly wonderful news and I pray for this reconciliation.
Was this an FSSP priest named Fr. Fryar?
I'm sorry. No, it was actually a Novus Ordo Mass this morning.
It was done at the parish church by the Director of Prayer and Worship for the Diocese of Charleston.
Fr. Fryar, FSSP? Isn't that redundant?
"No, you idiot, don't boil him! He's a fryar!"
I attended an FSSP Mass this summer (in Scranton, PA) which was celebrated by an extremely young (he looked to be about 12!) priest named Father Fryar. He gave a very powerful homily on the importance of "building our houses upon firm foundations."
Father Fryar even bestowed first blessings on the congregation and handed out beautiful holy cards to everyone. I loved it because it had easily been at least 30 years since I'd seen a priest bestow first blessings. My 8-year-old was fascinated with the whole thing and was relieved to find that, by golly, he DID know what was going on during the Mass! In addition, my husband (born a Lutheran) was actually in tears. "I had no idea...," he said to me.
Regards,
