Let the debates begin.
Former Presidential hopeful Dr. Alan Keyes has told Illinois Republicans that he would accept their request to take on Democrat Barack Obama in the US Senate race.
Members of the Republican State Central Committee insisted that the former radio and television commentator make the promise to run before they would give him the nod Wednesday night, sources told the Chicago Sun Times on Thursday.
The Republicans were leery of voting to give Keyes the nomination without some guarantees.
So he went back into the room and bascially said, 'If you offer, than I will accept.'
Another GOP source said that Keyes had agreed to accept the nomination but told the committee that he wanted to wait until he could publicly announce it at a 'campaign style' rally on Sunday.
'He told them that he would do it,' the source said. 'he just wanted to take a few days to put things together and make his announcement.'

Yep. The same malice, from the same posters, directed at the same target.
Putting aside just how disgraceful and wrong it is, wouldn't you think they would can it, out of consideration for our host? JR's delighted at Dr Keyes' candidature.
But no, just like every other hate clique that's infected Free Republic, they know better than its founder.
I'm here because I strongly support Dr. Keyes.
I voted for him in the Y2K Michigan GOP primary.
I liked him then, I like him now.
I only wish I lived in Illinois so I could vote for him this time.
See post #319.
I'd like some proof of that, Nopardons.
You constantly make a big deal about how you're 100% GOP, and how you're a tireless and experienced campaigner, and all the rest, but you seem to be on FR just about every waking moment, and now you're running down a GOP candidate. I think it's time you actually presented some proof, because what you say about your record, and the way you conduct yourself on this forum, don't add up.
See #320. These people will be glad if Obama wins.
Okay. I'll back off. I've made my case anyway.
As usual, FR is a great microcosm. Not perfect, but surprisingly good.
Alan will face some nasty opposition from a small clique of RINOs in Illinois. They will do their thing...place ads supporting the Dem or somesuch. But their numbers will be small.
The vast majority of Republicans will be united and energized like never before.
And Alan will have a shot at the minds and hearts of that great middle that decides elections in America.
With God's help, we can win.
If not, good things will be accomplished anyway.
But since we are about to elect a damned communist as president with Illinois being a large factor, how in the heck do you think that Keyes will be elected in that same state?
Good to be on the same side on this one, Willie.
Regards.
Nice meeting you, too.
I don't believe I know any liberal FReepers, and I didn't realize I was defending anyone. I was pointing out that the behavior of one particular Keyes supporter on this thread was unflattering to the candidate - but if you think lying and race-baiting is okay, have at it.
Oh - and feel free to confront me about anything you wish on the appropriate thread. Naturally, I would appreciate it if you would fairly characterize my remarks, wherever you make reference to them.
I surely hope you can manage that in the future.
Good on you, Willie. What can someone who lives outside of Illinois (or outside of the USA!) do, to help the Keyes campaign?
Okay. 'Less than zero' was your prediction, right?
I really appreciate your cogent posts. Refreshing to see your common sense. If only it were more common.
I think so, too.
If the race is lost, it will not be without a fight.
"I started to say you could not be a pimple on NoPardons Rump... But that is not true... You could be a pimple on NoPardons Rump... an infected one."
I would love to be an infected pimple on no pardons rump, as then he wouldn't be able to sit his bum down at the computer and spew forth his ignorance that is unfortunately inflicted on my fellow Freepers. Wouldn't mind being one on your rump also, unless you don't practice proper hygiene. With the name Common Tator, I don't know....
I know. It's sick isn't it? And some may think I'm race baiting, but I cannot understand why the seething anger at the thought that Alan would run...unless..it's because he's not just a true conservative, but a black conservative.
It isn't what I'm hoping for,but it is what will happen.
I was reading this thread and happened to notice your comment on "race-baiting", which I found a little ironic.
And heck, the behavior of certain Bush supporters is unflattering to the candidate - but if you think lying and race-baiting is okay, have at it.
"etty post and rather uncalled for.But up to your standards."
At least I have some.
I'm honoured, to read that from someone I hold in high regard. Thank you, very much.
Quite the contrary. ALL the particular Keyes bashers on this thread are unflattereing to their cause. Also, racism is not out of the question. It DOES happen.
