Let the debates begin.
Former Presidential hopeful Dr. Alan Keyes has told Illinois Republicans that he would accept their request to take on Democrat Barack Obama in the US Senate race.
Members of the Republican State Central Committee insisted that the former radio and television commentator make the promise to run before they would give him the nod Wednesday night, sources told the Chicago Sun Times on Thursday.
The Republicans were leery of voting to give Keyes the nomination without some guarantees.
So he went back into the room and bascially said, 'If you offer, than I will accept.'
Another GOP source said that Keyes had agreed to accept the nomination but told the committee that he wanted to wait until he could publicly announce it at a 'campaign style' rally on Sunday.
'He told them that he would do it,' the source said. 'he just wanted to take a few days to put things together and make his announcement.'

Good. I expect no less, with Dr Keyes' candidature.
FOUR YEARS AGO, when it was suggested to Keyes that he should run for the Senate in New York, he said: "I deeply resent the destruction of federalism represented by Hillary Clinton's willingness to go into a state she doesn't even live in and pretend to represent people there. So I certainly wouldn't imitate it."
EV, I sincerely hope Keyes wins this race - as long as he can control his tendency to be openly, bitterly critical of President Bush, I'd be thrilled if he was a senator.
But I must say:
I'm sitting here, watching a Keyes supporter repeatedly lie, taunt, and race bait someone - while no other Keyes supporters had so much as a comment about it. And you exclusively blame people who don't think Keyes will win for the tone of this thread?
I think you're more reasonable than that.
With friends like this, conservatives don't need enemies.
I'll say.
I'm reading some of his posts here in another browser and I know exactly what you mean.
Give the guy a new insult and he thinks he has a new idea.
It really is a no-brainer to decipher his posts: he's supporting a democrat rather than a conservative.
I don't mind a lack of vocabulary. I myself am not good at flowery and fancy words. What matters, though, is the effectiveness and efficiency of transmitting the idea w/o recurring to unecessay, trite, superfluos words and ready-made phrases or, in Luis case, insults.
I never said that I spoke for EVERY person residing in Ill.,but you've attempted to do just that.
I haves posted facts, that the over exuberant here, need to focus on,before planning their KEYES WON parties.
Of course will be helping Obama now;however,Obama has NOT been part of Jesse's "mafia".
I know facts.I don't wear rose colored glasses and while yes,Du Page is solidly GOP,as are a few other places, they aren't enough to give Keyes the win.
He's late to this race,he's an outsider, and unknown to many.
In 2000 so many here were sooooooooo happy all summer and early fall, with Rasmusen's polls. Then got hit over the head with reality.Isn't it better to look at reality in the first place?
erratum est...
By "He" in post 287 i was referring to Luis, no to nopardons.
I would be glad to do anything I can to help re-elect George W. Bush.
Thanks in advance, Byron
Exactly.
So it's time to jolt your buns off the couch, and get to work.
The media made a little issue out of that, and tried to question Cheney's ethics, particularly for his last-minute changing of residencies to qualify for the VP position.
Under your logic, Cheney was a liar when he denied he was being considered for VP, and dishonest for accepting the position before he changed residences.
Naw, Cheney's not dishonest, and neither is Keyes.
"If you'd managed to get some help with reading comprehension, you just might understand "
Keyes will crush Obamasama. Not beat him but actually drive him out of the state. By the end of the week Keyes will have to look for other fresh meat like Michael Moore.
Remember your new name is OBAMAPARDONS
How nasty?
...and I'm quite sure he'll have an answer ready.
Look, we're all Republicans here (or at least most of us vote that way). We're on the same side. We want GOP wins, and Dem defeats. So, let's quit the infighting and get to work.
It's much more fun to fight Democrats than to pick on our own.
Give me a break.
Some of the liberal FReepers you're defending lie and taunt on a daily basis.
BTW, it's difficult to view as credible the posts of anyone who believes the internment of innocent American citizens during WWII was right and good.
What have YOU done? :-)
If the ump is calling an outside ball a strike
YOU SWING OR STRIKE OUT.
The rules have changed, Hitlery changed em.
C'mon, guys. Let's quit the infighting.
Glad to hear it, I truly am. Most FReepers are sensible like you are. There are a couple of notable exceptions. What they are doing is despicable.
...as long as he can control his tendency to be openly, bitterly critical of President Bush, I'd be thrilled if he was a senator.
Y'all have always way overstated the case in this regard. Top Bush leaders in the White House have certainly not shared your opinion of the nature of Alan's sometime disagreements with admin policy.
I'm sitting here, watching a Keyes supporter repeatedly lie, taunt, and race bait someone -
I haven't seen a single lie. Plenty of taunts, which the poster certainly draws upon themselves. As to race baiting? They asked a simple question, a reasonable one under the circumstances...and as usual received no reasonable reply.
...while no other Keyes supporters had so much as a comment about it.
Some can't resist fighting fire with fire.
And you exclusively blame people who don't think Keyes will win for the tone of this thread?
Yes. The maliciousness of the anti-Keyesters here is legendary, and has reached a new low. You are a reasonable person and know that nopardons posts since this story broke are awful. You know that Common Tator's malicious slander on this thread are indefensible.
I think you're more reasonable than that.
I think you know that this hatred for Alan is unreasonable and warped.
"Obama, Obama".
Wait until Novemeber 3,2004.Then we'll see who was correct.
