Let the debates begin.
Former Presidential hopeful Dr. Alan Keyes has told Illinois Republicans that he would accept their request to take on Democrat Barack Obama in the US Senate race.
Members of the Republican State Central Committee insisted that the former radio and television commentator make the promise to run before they would give him the nod Wednesday night, sources told the Chicago Sun Times on Thursday.
The Republicans were leery of voting to give Keyes the nomination without some guarantees.
So he went back into the room and bascially said, 'If you offer, than I will accept.'
Another GOP source said that Keyes had agreed to accept the nomination but told the committee that he wanted to wait until he could publicly announce it at a 'campaign style' rally on Sunday.
'He told them that he would do it,' the source said. 'he just wanted to take a few days to put things together and make his announcement.'

You tell 'em! I for one will do everything I can to support Keyes' run for the Senate to represent Illinois.
Are YOU black?
Are YOU black?
I disagree. It's easy enough to answer as you will see when he deals with it.
Keyes is your candidate, Nopardons. Invited, by the GOP. You've made countless thousands of posts here about Party loyalty and sacrifice and all the rest of it. It's now time for you to start walking the walk. Cheers, By
I told you I'm not available. Please answer the question I asked you several times.
So, you still have not answered: you don't like Keyes because he's black?
~~~~~~
No no no, Tame!
He does not like Keys because it does not fit his personal agenda, which is a cultural one. Basically he would love to see Alan defeated because he's a Catholic, and Catholics or Christian's ideas and principle do not run parallel to his cultural agenda he has envisioned for the United States of America. Keys' priciples, I'm sure, also run counter to La Raza Unida's agenda.
And your other post was spot on,as usual.
nopardons only discussed the FACTS and you just had to go there right?
You are a fraud and a liar.
I also know when one of them is going to lose.
Are YOU black?
Another Keyes thread polluted by maliciousness.
It's happened hundreds of times in the last four years, and here we are again.
With friends like this, conservatives don't need enemies.
But notwithstanding this foolishness, the vast bulk of the GOP is going to pull together to try and pull victory from the jaws of defeat in this instance.
Most people aren't like this. They will do the right thing.
"Jesse looked at Obama,at the Boston Convention,the way he looks at Sharpton...it's the IF LOOKS COULD KILL look.But of course Jesse is going to help Obama in this race.That doesn't mean that he's in Jesse's pocket...yet,if ever.
Have you ever worked on a campaign,in Ill.for a BIG election? I have...for Reagan,Bush the elder,and Thompson,to name but a few.Your enthusiasm is to be lauded,but facts outweigh that."
Geez, you're a trip. I've worked on campaigns in Illinois, BIG ones, thank you. But you deign to speak for all of Illinois. Contrary to what you believe, you don't speak for all of Illinois. As to Jesse Jackson, Obama will be working hand and glove with him and his son, Jesse Jr. Where you get the idea that they won't be working together is beyond me. Jesse's son is a representative from a great big district on the south side of Chicago. You think Obama isn't going to kiss up to junior to get that district's vote? Are you dreaming? You don't know Illinois politics one-tenth as much as you think you do, but you spout on and on and on as if you do. You must move around the state a great deal currently, to know so much about how Illinoisans think and how they will vote. You put out this mini-list of areas in Illinois you think will vote against Keyes, while totally ignoring large areas of the state that will vote for him in a nano second. Like DuPage County, for starters. You know, that large area of primarily conservative voters that sits right next to Chicago. Then head to large areas of downstate conservatives. Keyes may not be able to pull a rabbit out of a hat due to this late start, but he'll do surprisingly well in this state, and also will help bring out the Republican vote in November which only helps Bush. You see, your negativism against Keyes will only hurt Bush, who you claim to back. Your doing Bush no favors with your attitude, your bad attitude. No glass half full for you.
ppffftt! You are in denial, Keyes is a great speaker but Im afraid that the people of chicago will go with the new guy rather than the blatant hypocrite
The circumstance Keyes finds himself in in Illinois is different than the one Hillary created for herself in New York. Unlike Hillary, he didn't seek this opportunity or create it. And unlike Hillary, he IS needed in the Senate.
Theres a difference between invading a state and being invited to come.
Answer my question before asking one.
That's right.
Last night was different. Now, he's accepted the nomination. I argued against the Iraq war, right up until the first shot was fired. At that point, the arguing's over, and it's my/your duty to shut up, and get with the program.
"I'm not the problem here, talk to the guy from California calling the guy from Illinois names for opining on the way the GOP is doing things in Illinois."
But you are the guy not from Illinois, supporting the know-it-all from Illinois, while picking on the poor sap from California whose only sin is to be optimistic about Keyes and his candidacy. By the way, I'm from Illinois, so here you now have a separate outside opinion of Illinois politics, a much more optimistic view, so that may not set well with you. You seem to prefer gloom and doom analysis.
