A former Clinton cabinet member faced questioning after she allegedly caused a disturbance on a flight that had to land in Richmond. Hazel O'Leary served as Energy Secretary under President Bill Clinton and was just recently named president of Fisk University in Tennessee.
OLeary was detained and questioned in Richmond Thursday night by the FBI and the TSA after a flight she was on made an unscheduled landing in Richmond because of bad weather.
OLeary was on a flight with the final destination of Savannah, Georgia. Nine days ago she was named president of the university thats in Nashville. The United Airlines flight from Nashville to Washington landed at 6:15 in Richmond Thursday.
An airport spokesman says a passenger requested to get off that plane and that request was denied. The passenger then allegedly tried to follow the pilot into the cockpit of that flight and was restrained by a flight attendant. Sources say that passenger was OLeary. Airport police were called and OLeary was questioned for about two hours by the FBI and TSA.
There were no charges filed against OLeary and apparently, according to sources, no charges are pending. NBC12 is told OLeary spent the night in Richmond and resumed her travels today.
A report in a Nashville newspaper quoted Hazel OLeary saying, I regret the unfortunate misunderstanding that occurred last evening. The situation was resolved. At no time was I rude or disrespectful to anyone. I answered all questions that were asked and resumed my journey.
