Another 911 failure. This time in Hampton Roads area:
As of noon Friday, Verizon provided Your NewsChannel 3 with an update on the 911 emergency service in the 757 area code, which was interrupted at approximately 3 a.m. Friday as Verizon was performing a network system upgrade.
Verizon says the system upgrade caused trunk lines serving these 911 centers to go down however, all other phone service is functioning. Partial or full service has been restored in several of the affected 911 centers, in other words, these centers are able to take some calls from people dialing 911.
Verizon continues to work to restore full 911 dialing capability into these centers. At this time, there is no estimated time of completion on the repairs. Customers who have to report an emergency are encouraged to dial the following numbers until 911 dialing is restored in full:
