Have seen several big rig incidents cross the log (CHP) today, including one that caused a HUGE mess on I-5 near the border patrol point early this morning.
After warning folks that I-5 would be a mess b/c of Opening Day at the Del Mar Racetracks, I-15 has been extremely busy...
And now, we have a HazMat type situation on I-15. This has completely closed the freeway now near Deer Springs Rd. They are talking about mobilizing for possible evacuations (based on the news report at the bottom of the hour...as in residents) and long-term freeway closure.
A cloud was reported to be visible after the spill started, and they were trying to keep cars from driving through it, but some continued on. This was all prior to the freeway being shut down.

Thank you so much for pinging me to this. Just hearing it on the Channel 7/39 news too.
We're heading up to LA tomorrow for my son's wedding and had planned on taking the 15 because of the backups around DelMar on the 5. Now, it may be a nightmare getting out of SD.
This is a very very bad situation. Let me know if you hear more, please.
Well this hazmat thing is either far BIGGER or far WORSE...they estimated maybe opening by 2 am about an hour ago...to now saying 8 and possibly later.
THIS is the kind of scenario that could really paralyze cities if they did something intentionally prior to some sort of attack...screw up the major routes in/out and you have everyone stuck... (like could have been far worse in the fire situation here back in Oct.)...
And Kyla, start planning your route over to 5... Like for you maybe 67 to 15 and cross over either on 78 (although that may be the most crowded b/c it's the closest to the incident) or Del Dios Highway (at Via Rancho Parkway) if you know that route...that's probably the LEAST likely to be a huge mess...and still gets you to 5 far enough north to avoid a lot of the mess...or even the new 56 since it goes through...
But all that depends on the time of day...let me know what time you were leaving or PM me and I'll be happy to help ya with a back route... I've learned 'em all up in this part of town trying to avoid regular traffic...
