no question there, on all counts. i'm just trying to throw out thoughts and observations. but maybe that's the perfect question: what would the benefit be of a jihadi posting an image on a jihad website? to taunt, maybe. to brag.

To quote a now-famous line -- because they can. It's a way for them to communicate, incite their followers and recruit. As someone mentioned in an earlier post, the Islamic calendar with the picture of a plane flying into buildings was posted on jihad sites prior to 9/11. Of course, no one would have thought to look for it before hand.
