Million-Dollar Den of Thieves Busted; Gang Came from Colombia to Pillage Queens, New York
A sophisticated gang of thieves that netted upward of $1.5 million from some 300 home burglaries in Queens this winter has been busted. The gang, described by Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly as one of the most prolific burglary rings in memory, broke into as many as six private homes a day in January and February. They were responsible for a third of such crimes in Queens, police sources said. Kelly suggested the scope of the gang may be unprecedented in the annals of city crime.
With roots in Colombia, the 63 identified members are bonded by blood, romance and greed. "They told us they did not come to this country to get a job. They're here to steal, and steal as often as they can...
