I didn't realize it for about a month after I moved here, but we are in an almost constant state of "brown-out" and as a result, I have surge protectors on everything in the house, including lamps.

I still have to find a "lamp kit" to rebuild the lamp that got fried before I wised up to the "power surges"...I would like to do it before I leave...
