Saving to Word couldn't be simpler. Highlight the text you want to save by left-click and drag, then Ctrl C.
Open up a new word document and use Ctrl V. The highlighted text will now be in Word. It goes the other way, too. I often use Word to set up longer responses, then drop them into the Reply box. (This gives you an opportunity to use Spell Checking twice, by the way!)

It is quite dog-earred and slightly yellowed, but it is my reference for the ages!
