Well, I've already shown them
the story I wrote while talking
to you on AIM before. We
haven't done that in a long time.
I'm me, aka "girl in blue dress who went to the Bush rally" ;-)
How's your day been?
My day is okay...unnecessarily hectic, but okay.
Are you sure you're you?
My day has been moving at a snail's pace, but
that's nothing do. I have unnecessarily lazy days.
Oh wait...I think I misread your post. It's been a long day...
I think I'm me, but I'm not so sure now. Are we really us? Am I really sitting on a chair typing in a Reply box on Free Republic? Or is this all just a figment of my imagination? Or am I just extremely tired?
Um. Uuuum. 42!
Yeah... but you seemed so happy about it, I didn't want to ruin it for you. ;-)
Huh?
Thanks. I appreciate it.
Someone could reprogram it to happen...
The answer to the Ultimate Question of Life, the Universe, and Everything. Although we never really learned what the question itself was unless "What is 6x7?" has some greater as yet not understood cosmic significance.
*pinches herself to make sure it's real*
Have you ever tried to think about stuff like the vastness of the universe or how things were initially created? It hurts my head when I try.
Just be very careful if you try to reboot yourself.
Hhhmmm....
Hopefully that sounds the way it is intended...
Are you intending it to sound like I'm rebooting myself as if I were a computer?
Of course that is just my two cents, but even Hawkings recant of total information loss in a black hole points to the possibility of cosmic recycling.
Speaking of 42, I found an anecdote
I thought was amusing.
Deep Thought
"Scientists in Cambridge spent three years calculating
one of the fundamental keys to the universe - The Hubble
Constant [the velocity at which a typical galaxy is receding
from Earth divided by its distance from Earth] that determines
the age of the universe. This process mirrored a passage in
[Douglas Adams's] cult science fiction novel and radio series
'The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy' in which an alien race
programs a computer called Deep Thought to provide the
ultimate answer to understanding life and the universe. "In
the novel, seven and a half million years later Deep Thought
comes back with the result, 42.
"In an extraordinary coincidence when the Cambridge scientists
finally calculated the Hubble Constant they found the answer
was also 42."
["It caused quite a few laughs when we arrived at the figure
42," Dr Keith Grange later recalled, "because we're all great
fans of The Hitchhiker's Guide!" (Sadly, estimates of the Hubble
Constant now range between 57 and 78 kilometers per second
per megaparsec.)]
I just realized that some minds around might try ascribe a less wholesome image to it. ;-)
I got in trouble in high school when my biology teacher was telling us how there was nothing and suddenly an explosion occurred and created the universe. I asked where the explosion came from. He said I needed to ask a physicist.
Cool... I vaguely remember hearing something about that. Thanks...
