When a pilot of a jet airliner starts talking about his faith, or encouraging other on the flight to do so, my immediate thought would be he might be suicidal. After all, didn't the suicide pilot of the Egyptian flight that crashed off of New York, repeat religious phrases on the way down?
In any case, his relationship with the passengers is purely business. I am sure the passengers did not pay for those tickets expecting a sermon.
It's the Muslim faith that teaches suicide. So if a Muslim pilot starts guoting from the Koran I'm getting nervous. If a Christian pilot starts quoting from the bible my nervous meter will not peg as high.

It looks like you too were indoctrinated in government schools to believe that one's faith is a quaint little hobby that should be kept to oneself and is inappropriate to be mentioned or practiced in public. I was similarly indoctrinated and I still suffer the effects of that indoctrination and find it hard to share my faith with others or to be seen praying in public. Looks like the pilot had briefly overcome such programming. I'm sure that he'll be adequately re-educated.
