I recall an energized and born-again hard conservative GOP taking the House in 1994 after the lesson of 1992.

And then promptly lost their nerve when Bill Clinton managed to blame them for shutting the government down.

And promptly allowed Clinton to take the credit for their programs.

And promptly lost the 1996 Presidential election.

And promptly began losing seats in every election that followed.

Yeah...that was some lesson the conservatives taught the GOP.

Perfect description.

They should have been holding press conferences every single day saying the government will stay shut down until such time as the president comes to his fiscal senses.

The American people respond to honesty and guts.

Not mealy-mouthed appeasers.
