There are some good points in it, and also some wishful thinking. Good points are being better able to keep track of those coming into our country, and stricter enforcement on employers.
Bad points are letting some illegals get away with law-breaking and perhaps enticing more to come across our borders.
The border patrol has been increased under President Bush's watch and they are going to eventually use drone planes to monitor the border, which should help somewhat. Enforcement at the border is not what one would wish, but there are other things demanding the manpower and money of our country.
Since the President's proposal has been announced, there are at least two different immigration bills in Congress with different ideas.
I give Bush credit for at least addressing the problem and not ignoring it, which is what was done for the last 8 years. I doubt that the final bill will bear much resemblance to what he proposed, but it at least gets people in the frame of mind that this is a problem that must be solved.
And where do you propose to write that in? In the Primary? As far as I know there is no Republican Primary. If you are talking about the General election, you ar eplaying a dangerous game.
Bush's immigration proposal is DOA in the Congress, so it's really nothing to worry about. He needs every vote out there.
"Sending him a message" will only give us 8 more years of immediate grief and, perhaps, 50 years of liberal control of our courts. I'm not sure that our nation would survive.
