It was reported on FNC this morning that the U.S.S. Enterprise has interdicted a number of al Qaeda in the last couple of weeks in the waters off Iraq. Some of them were caught with large amounts of heroin and hashish. Three guesses what AQ was going to do with that.

They were going to sell it on the black market to earn money to finance their terrorist activities: a black market that would not exist if the stuff were legalized.
Legalize drugs -- end financing of terrorism!

WOD, aka how to get more power for the government.
The US could have destroyed all of the opium at its source in Afghanistan (world's largest producer of opium) but decided not to. According to the CIA (
http://www.cia.gov/cia/publications/factbook/geos/af.html) opium is the largest crop in Afghanistan, and interestingly it is listed as an Exports commodities. So is this a war on drugs of a fund raiser / control tool for the government?

Sell it for the artificially high price the drug war has created in the black market? Three guesses whether they would have had these substances if they could only get $5 an ounce for it.
