Greater unaccountability = less spine.

First you demand your politicians act according to their conscience and not political expediancy, then you demand they not act according to their conscience, but to your conscience.

You can't have it both ways. Pick the man who you think is best fit for the job and, illegal or immoral activity aside, give him your full support.

If he doesn't live up to your expectations, there's always another candidate and election right down the road.

Of course you can.

Balances are always struck between matters of conscience.

But I'm not of the impression that anyone caved to the Democrat filibuster on judicial appointments because they were following their consciences.
