I didn't see a character assasination being offered by Badjoe at all.

If his words are untrue, then show me where that is so.

If not, then perhaps rather than shoot the messenger, one might actually consider the message.

I know Badjoe.

He's a good man.

Is he pissed off?

Sure.

Did he lash out?

Sure.

Was he wrong?

If so... show me where.

His reaction, his posting on other sites, and his reliance upon enemies to further his argument were wrong.

Because of it, the message, the crux of what he said...was lost.

I did see a definite character slam on Jim at the end of his 'revelation.'

Here's an example of where I believe BADJOE went over the line.

BADJOE: My conclusions. One cannot rely on Jim to tell the truth. Freepers are not given the benefit of the doubt. There is no review process of Moderator action. Jim does not have any principles or convictions. Jim is not an honest nor an honorable man. Jim is not a man of his word. FR has outgrown his ability to handle it."

These are value judgements that leave little room for productive discourse to ensue...as a human being, JimRob's certainly not perfect nor beyond reproach; however, to claim that JimRob's without principles and not honorable precludes any potentially productive exchange of ideas, IMHO.

It may be BADJOE's opinion, but these value judgments shut the door on the discussion's utility.

We can start with the thread I posted to the SBR. Joe had claimed that the two moderators (one of who is me) he has it out for were banning people left and right and he started an argument to distract them. It simply wasn't true. He also said that most of the bans done are done by those two. This is also untrue, as was shown by that thread, and shown by Jim saying it wasn't true, and shown by all of the other moderators saying it wasn't true. He also said that 80% of new signups were being banned, which also was untrue and could be checked as described on that thread. He has also said that the two moderators in question called Diotima a nazi; Diotima has a copy of the thread in question and says she knows for a fact that this is untrue. He has said that other moderators had contacted him to say he was right, yet all of the other moderators say this is untrue.

He made some really egregious charges as to Jim's honesty and integrity, that to me went WAY over the line.

I myself wish that posts wouldn't get banned for being "controversial" or adversarial. Many's a time I click on a thread for later reading and come back to see the words "this thread has been pulled, reason; enough already" or sumpin' like that, and I would have much preferred that the post had been kept intact.

I also wish that bannings of individual posts and posters wouldn't happen with such alacrity. Dissent doesn't always mean disruption. I'm a life-long Republican but most of my friends are conservatives who have left the GOP because they think it's becoming the DemoLite Party.

I disagree with them, but I don't find their disagreements with President Bush, Karl Rove or Dr. Frist to be disruption, as I also don't find Conservatives/Libertarians here, for the most part, to be disruptors.

That doesn't reflect any ill regards towards JimRob, not at all...Free Republic is my favorite website and I prolly spend two hours a day reading it. In fact, I no longer scan the news domains, as Freepers are becoming the fastest way to get news anywhere on the web.

I thank God for JimRob and FreeRepublic. In fact, if the web goes all-subscription someday, Freep will be the only site that I'll subscribe to. The only reason I don't subscribe now is I just cannot afford it at this point in time.

I always liked BadJoe's posts in the past, and he has some points about the moderators and moderating process that I agree with, but when he attacked JimRob's character, integrity and honsety, he totally blew it in my mind, and showed me that he was speaking out of a seed of bitterness, and not because he truly cares about Freep and JimRob.
