That's too bad, becuz I don't really see the downside to the concept. Dealing with all the KRAP that I'm sure AM's need to deal with can probably be quite a grind at times, and those willing to volunteer their services fer such duty deserve our gratitude. I'm serious about them being celebrated for their time, effort and judgement.
However, as someone who's had their fair share of run-ins with the MODS, it would seem helpful to know which ones you happen to be rubbing the wrong way, and avoid posting controversial opinions during their timeslots. I'm sure the AMs haveta prepare a schedule ahead of time to make sure all the timeslots are covered, so it would seem relatively simple to link this schedule in such a way as to click on the "Admin Moderator"'s bio to see who's manning the post at a particular time. I could even see an eventuality wherein folks would come to appreciate various "styles" of the different AMs and arrange their schedules to correspond to a certain AM who is tighter or looser on their policing of the Forum. Like I said, I don't see the downside to such a system...what am I missing?
Just a thought...MUD
An excellent suggestion, Mud.
The "secrecy" thing around here is really odd given the fact I frequent several nonpolitical websites & what you've suggested is exactly how they operate.
Everyone knows who the mods are because it says so going in; moreover, the mods often jump right in & participate in [a] discussion if they're so moved which has got to make it a lot more fun for those "working" the board.
In fact in the infrequent instances some leaker breaks the rules at those places mods rarely need to take any action a'tall; since, the rest of us are quick to take care of the *problem* in all but the most extreme situations.
Come to think of it?
Isn't that *how* FR used to deal with the occasional troll who'd wind up having to deal with the rest of the forum?
In those days JR&Co rarely ever posted to a topic, nevermind ever intervening in the scraps between people.
Peer pressure's a powerful force for modifying behavior on a BB, IF, one seriously expects to return on a consistent basis & be taken seriously.
~& it's *natural*! {g}
In any event, the mods at the sites I spoke of are no different than here insofar as they're people who're picked from amoung the forum participants & volunteer their time.
"Like I said, I don't see the downside to such a system...what am I missing?"
There isn't a downside, you're not missing anything.
As I said before.
...it'd be a [sincere] move in the right direction.
I'm sure the AMs haveta prepare a schedule ahead of time to make sure all the timeslots are coveredNope. We are around when we are around. It so happens that we have a mix of nightowls and early birds, so generally there is someone around. Jim is usually around from the time he gets up until he goes to bed, except when he is travelling or out Freeping in Fresno.
There are times when we have no moderators. And unfortunately, there are times when disruptors hit and no moderators are around. There was one Saturday in particular that I remember, where when I rolled out of bed and checked in before starting on my "Honey-do" list that I noticed over 200 new abuse reports. Seems we had someone posting some really vile stuff, and when whoever it was realized no one was around they really turned on the juice. It happens.
