Though I'm mentioned in BadJoe's
* original post as attending one of the first gatherings of Freepers back in the olden days, I had decided to bypass any comment on the nature of this thread until now.
I'd like to take a moment to offer some advice for all Freepers old and new who wish to avoid entangling their time, money, or emotions in the silly and ridiculous behind-the-scenes drama at FreeRepublic that narcissistic antagonists are naturally drawn to like a moth to a flame:
1. Log on.
2. Read 'Breaking News' to see what's going on the world.
3. Skip all other Freepers' comments after the articles, and log the hell off.
Optional:
4. If you care to, send in $5 from time to time as you see fit. You're under no obligation.
It's really that simple.
The anti-Freeper, anti-Anti-Freeper, anti-anti-Anti-Freeper, and assorted anti-anti-but-not-allied-with-any-other-anti-Freeper-or-anti-Anti-Freeper cadres still out there doing their little thing are nothing more than participants in an insignificant and perpetually ongoing four year mental masturbation contest between emotionally imbalanced people who desperately need a hug. That goes for everyone.
(*Hello Joe. Stay healthy, pal... Say 'Hello' to Willa for me.)

...to be unbelievably arrogant and pretty much the attitude of some of the new returnees her at FR. I'm not so sure it is positive that the crew is back.
LOL! Classic.

"First, they get so wrapped up in the Forum that it becomes part of their identity. They reach the point that any criticism, even when offered as positive, cannot be assimilated as it strikes at the core of their self approval."
Bingo! I think I once called it "intellectual self validation". That and the fact people are free to behave badly without the face to face consequences adds to the problem.

...but who will be left to remember how you sent poor dumb mojo out with 40 year old maps into the venetian canals to look for drive by shooters at customers emerging from restaurants ...priceless.
To: Daus
"You've sat by silently, with all the rest, while a litany have people have come and gone. Once their gone, here comes BobJ to condemn them, but they were just peachy while they clawed their way through FR."
That's not true, Daus. I've personally seen Bob J many times voice his objections to some of the behavior of the "past tensers". You're missing quite a bit of info on what's transpired behind the scenes over the years with the "inner circles". Most are sincere, but a few have been duplicitous and power motivated. Bob J has made his position clear on numerous occasions to JimRoB. What else can a person do, but try to alert another to the dangers? The other person has to make his own decisions, as it should be.

"... look for drive by shooters at customers emerging from restaurants ...priceless." Oh yes. That happens all the time in Los Angeles.
... In VIN DIESEL MOVIES.
To: The KG9 Kid
I read somewhere as
Breaking News that Vin Diesel
has added a new facial expression. When all is said and done, he'd better pay his PR guy a good bonus for Christmas 'cause that guy made a mountain out of a mole hill and now that his 15 minutes is up he'll still get a check just for cameos...I wonder if he is in the new Texas Chainsaw Massacre?

I can tell you what I think is going on.. You may well be right. Daus has made more posts since I counted the 40 and now there are more than 40 posts there to be seen. The same could well be true of the other people for whom I have noticed this phenomonon. I will investigate further.
Thank you for your astute observations.

The theme of the evening! And here I thought it might be healthy if FR grew up and stopped relying on the 'inner circle' concept. Color me crazy. :)

C'mon Daus, you're fairer than that. You made a specific accusation that I happened to know was incorrect. You can beat up on Bob J for other shortcomings (I have...:), but this one is wrong. However, I agree there has been TOO much behind scenes maneuvering, good or bad. That's why VetsCoR tries to be transparent. We post our BOD meetings (which are open to the public), our legal documents, our policy decisions, etc. But then we're an organization representing a constiguency and FR forum is privately owned bulletin board.
