I was lucky enough to get to shoot a string at a towed target with a 5"38 naval rifle. One tends to think about firearms in a whole different light after that experience... How long was the tow rope?
If I was the pilot towing the target, I'd want about a mile long length of tow rope to the target.
LOL! Me too. As I recall (it was a loooong time ago, just before the gunline in Vietnam) it was a 10,000 foot tow, and the pilot was supposed to be past midships before the gun commenced fire, and it was never supposed to bear past that point. They were real careful with this idiot nugget Ensign who had the temerity to think he could shoot. That would be...me...
