Let's hope this is an unrelated incident. Thought you may like this information from a specialist in cyber terrorism and national defense.
Sorry if this is in the wrong section but thought people interested in WOT would be interested in this. It is probably nothing but interesting to note.

Very interesting. Thank you.

I have been an advisor with a SCADA organization and fully realize the vulnerability. That is what concerns me. It is interesting to get others opinions. Hopefully it is nothing.
To: Gabrielle Reilly
In this case, it is nothing - just a blown fuse.

I hope so. But have you ever known a blown fuse to take out such a large area?
Did you know there were actually more planes involved in 9/11? You may never know the whole truth... and it is important you don't because right now, market confidence is imperative also to fighting terrorism. A strong military is a strong economy.

Yes, I am beginning to think that something spooked the nukes on the grid.
Could have been simple panic.

Vitek Boden, a disgruntled former employee of the company that had installed the computerized water system for Maroochy Shire Council, hacked into the sewage control computers and used radio transmissions to alter pump station operations. I don't think any hacking was required; the system was a LAN with no passwords to secure access.

Interesting. Engineers recognize the vulnerability of the power system. It is my understanding that, for many years, it has been a federal offense to physically damage transformers and power sysrems.
Watching the people stranded in NY suggests that a small emergency kit, containing cash, flashlight, water and snacks, etc. would useful.
