Just take a trip to Texas and buy what you want and take it homeThat'd be nice. Impossible, but nice. With the background check, you have to show your driver's license. No one in another state will sell a firearm to a California resident. The only way to buy a firearm from out of state is to have them ship it to a licensed dealer, and then do the transfer. And, of course, the firearm will need to be California legal. Ain't it great?

Working is not much fun... but no paycheck is worse!

Yes, I know who you mean. Mr. Dixon. As I understand, he bought the gun legally in Florida, but it needed to be registered in NY. I had read somewhere that he had given someone $500 to help him get through the paperwork, since he was working two jobs and didn't have tons of free time. Apparently, this person took his $500 and went out of business, or some such thing, $500 gone. Gun not registered. Oh, the horror. Protecting your children with an unregistered firearm! What could possibly be worse?

I don't know that for sure. I read it somewhere on another thread, and can't remember if it was in the article, or someone heard him say it when he was on Hannity & Colmes. But as I understand it, he had been working on registering the gun, which no law abiding American citizen should have to do.

Columns inches? .. what is that It's a measure of how long an article is in newspaperese.
A want ads page is divided in into 10 columns for ease of reading. A full column is 20" from top to bottom. That's 20 column inches. A section that spans 2 1/2 columns would be 50 column inches.
Writers live and die based on how many column inches of text they produce...
