Johnny was a Republican and Joey voted for Reagan but was less conservative. CJ Ramone put himself somewhere inbetween (possibly libertarian but that wasn't how he identified it).

Dee Dee wasn't active politically but I don't think that he'd call himself a Republican (I just finished his autobiography and he opposed a lot of things because he didn't get along with Johnny, who was the designated band leader and had to be a hardass at times to get the band in line).

You, weegee, have just made my day with that post! I love the Ramones and it is just far beyond cool that their politics are at least a little similar to mine. The Ramones have been on my "love this!" list since I was about 12 years old, so to hear this is -- well, it's a dream!!

I think that John peaked in form, budget, and cast with Hairspray (and I had already seen all of his films made up to that point when it came out).

I still see his new films and like some elements of them, but they can be too campy or too low budget. I wouldn't say that Hairspray is my "favorite" John Waters movie (I like some of the earlier movies better) but it is his most accessible and professional.

Others are doing the campy movies better these days and he's be entirely ripped off in the gross out humor arena by Hollywood.

He has few tricks still to spring.

Johnny had a list of his 10 favorite famous conservatives (or Republicans, I remember which word he used) on the Ramones website but the site is being reworked and I can't find it now.

I was surprised to learn that the actor Vincent Gallo (who is also a musician) is a conservative and friend of Johnny Ramone. Johnny didn't like Dee Dee's song "Bonzo Goes To Bitburg" and had the band change the title for one release; Dee Dee didn't agree with Johnny's appreciation of Ronald Reagan. As I say, Joey voted for Reagan but didn't agree witht the trip to the German cemetary.
