McKellen Updates White Book
7/15/03, 1:34 pm EST - Xoanon
Ian McKellen (Gandalf) has updated his 'White Book' section of his website. There are some great pictures from the battlefield in 'Return of the King'! [More]
From the above:
In this way I revisited the Gates of Mordor today , where The Mouth of Sauron once more threw down Frodos mithral vest. And Gandalf meets despair. Aragorn, Legolas, Gimli and Pippin were nothing but eyelines marked by a chalk cross behind or alongside the camera, or a yellow tennis ball or a red apple spiked on top of a lighting stand. I wonder if todays tennis ball was a veteran from the Balrog battle where again an eyeline was need for a non-existent foe.
That is my VERY FAVORITE heartbreak of the whole story! - I am gonna be so twittery watching this. Ksen, I know you posted this for us yesterday but I was too distracted to read it! - Thanks for the ping Maq!

A host of hobbits, goblins and warriors dropped in on the San Diego Comic Convention today to premiere three minutes of a 12-minute preview of the third and final Lord of the Rings movie "The Return of the King". The full 12-minute sneak peek will be featured on the August 26 release of "The Two Towers" DVD. Prior to the preview, Elijah Wood, Sean Astin, Andy Serkis, Dominic Monaghan and others fielded questions from the crowd, then introduced a special taped message from Ian McKellen, Peter Jackson and Billy Boyd who are still in New Zealand filming pick-ups for the new film due in December. The trio expressed their regrets for not being at the Con, then introduced the new footage.

WELL! - New line thinks these picks are a big deal! - I missed them when they were on TORN, but found them on Fantasy Planet.

GAMING: Hobbit Video... AMAZING
7/22/03, 11:16 am EST - Xoanon
From Gaming Havens: It's hard to make my jaw drop, but when I first saw the video for Sierra's The Hobbit at E3 I was seriously in shock. I've not seen a cinematic this promising since Gandalf fought the Balrog! Take a look, and judge for yourself! [More]

Elrond knew all about runes of every kind. That day he looked at the swords they had brought from the trolls' lair, and he said: "These are not troll-make. They are old swords, very old swords of the High Elves of the West, my kin. They were made in Gondolin for the Goblin-wars. They must have come from a dragon's hoard or goblin plunder, for dragons and goblins destroyed that city many ages ago. This, Thorin, the runes name Orcrist, the Goblin-cleaver in the ancient tongue of Gondolin; it was a famous blade. This, Gandalf, was Glamdring, Foe-hammer that the king of Gondolin once wore. Keep them well!""Whence did the trolls get them, I wonder?" said Thorin looking at his sword with new interest.
"I could not say," said Elrond, "but one may guess that your trolls had plundered other plunderers, or come on the remnants of old robberies in some hold in the mountains of the North. I have heard that there are still forgotten treasures of old to be found in the deserted caverns of the mines of Moria, since the dwarf and goblin war."
~ The Hobbit, Chapter 3, A Short Rest.
Gimli the dwarf alone wore openly a short shirt of steel-rings, for dwarves make light of burdens; and in his belt was a broad-bladed axe. Legolas had a bow and a quiver, and at his belt a long white knife. The younger hobbits wore the swords that they had taken from the barrow; but Frodo took only Sting; and his mail-coat, as Bilbo wished, remained hidden. Gandalf bore his staff, but girt at his side was the elven-sword Glamdring, the mate of Orcrist that lay now upon the breast of Thorin under the Lonely Mountain. ~FoTR: The Ring Goes South
