Mornin Grannie,
Got my new modem going in the G4 but my ISP can't seem to talk to it, still trying to figure that out. Sure had some pretty red skies over the mountains this AM, would have like to share them.
Like your frog.
Cheers.

Your ISP doesn't like your modem?

It's like this:
1. Buy new G4 Macintosh.
2. Return modem which only works with G3 Macs.
3. Buy new modem for G4 Mac.
4. Install modem.
5. Go through the installation:
a. Successfully dials.
b. Successfully finds ISP.
c. Successfully validates name / pwd.
6. Netscape can't find free republic.
6b. Internet explorer can't find free republic.
6c. Neither can find any other web site either.
7. Bonafide, Justified, look of horror.
Cheers.

About that time I'd have gone postal on the machine.
*I have, just not enough to kill it permanently.*
Egads.
Good Luck.
Maybe it needs a cloven hoof up it's modem...

I'm sitting here next to a Linux box that has no problem browsing FreeRepublic, I'm on a Solaris7 (Sun Micro) box I usually use to browse FreeRepublic, I've got a Windows 98 box at home for lurking after hours, no problems, and I discontinued one Mac because it had the peculiar perturbation... If anyone picked up a phone while it was connected, it would immediately disconnect.
Now this new Mac is the bug-a-boo of the moment. It is probably something so stinking trivial but obscure...
Then I get to upload pictures.
Cheers.

Yeah, probably something so inconsequential that it's overlooked.
Like a pin switch or some arcane setting that requires basic knowledge of practical voodoo and runes to figure out....
Again, much luck in finding out it's beef with the internet.

Boy, isn't that the truth.
I took my PC all the way back to the shop where I bought it because everything in MS Word had disappeared except for a blank window to type into, and I spent hours including an uninstall and reinstall of Word trying to fix it.
Then the shop brought up a stupid DOS window and typed in the magic incantation "winword /A" which resets all the MSWord defaults...
Nowhere in the documentation could I find why or how to do that.
That and a few other things made me 1. Swear off Windows and 2. Promise never to port my software to it.
Cheers.

UGH! DOS!! *Unclean, unclean!*
Keep in mind, I'm the guy who crashes MACS like nothing.
I seem to have the death touch when it comes to normal usage of equipment.
But DOS......
DOS is, was, and forever shall remain an evil quasi-OS that semi-worked and sorta had network support....
At least the newer versions of windows don't have true DOS to fight with. (Just an emulation mode.)
I've had problems with programs due to DOS, while running under Windows 9X...
Had a game that for some arcane reason didn't like Dos 6...

If you've got more luck with Macs than I do, go for it.
Me, I have the lowest luck with Macs that anyone has ever had.
Had better luck with the notoriously unstable Win95.
No, I don't know how that happened...

Okay, we'll resume normal communication now.

What you been up to?
Got one sketch done, somewhat. Gonna refine it a little.

All that sleeping is going to make Al jealous! I don't think you have to resubmit your pledge, but if you want to go over there to tell Mo to bite your ass, then have at it ;-)
