I was a 15 year old Sophomore in High school in Mendon, Massachusetts and was on my way to geometry class, when 2 boys in my class ran down the corridor shouting that the Presidant was dead. They were cheering like jerks. We heard the official announcement at close of school and everyone was afraid and crying. We stayed glued to the tv for days. Everyone feared that there would be a war because of the assasination. Jackie and the children on tv during the funeral procession was my most vivid visual remembrance.

I was 5. I was eating mashed potatoes and green beans and sitting in front of a black and white TV when the news guy broke in.
My grandmother, who was ironing behind me, began to cry.

I really thought there would be more coverage or awareness of this topic and had to do a site SEARCH to see if anyone made mention of it today. Didn't see or hear much in the mainstream media either. I'll always remember the date as it was my grandfather's birthday and the celebratory spirit quickly turned dark, as it remained for many of his birthdays thereafter because of the day's significance. I was five years old and living in St. Louis, Missouri.

I was twelve and waiting for school to start. Some loud mouthed kid ran through and yelled that the president was shot with a machine gun.

Most of us were bewildered. I didn't come from a political family and policitians were only someone we heard about around election day.

I think the family was more surprised when Ruby killed Oswald.

The only difference was like everyone else we had the TV on continuely for the week and in our family that was unheard of.

I was a shophmore in H.S. doing attendance collection and message duty. I took the message from class to class, I never want to have to that kind of stuff again. The teacher's reactions were frightening.

Isn't this a vanity thread?

I just had my own 11/22/63 thread banished to FReeper chatland maybe 2 seconds after posting.

No, no... the "fray" is at that other place (Slate http://slate.msn.com/default.aspx?id=3936).

Heh-heh... just joshin' with ya'... ;)

Welcome to Free Republic!

Where was I when JFK was victimized by the Military/Industialist coup? Let's see... I was about 2 years old and was probably sitting on my living room floor in the midst of a mess of toys and causing my poor mom all kinds of hell.

Later...

I was at Grandma's house while Mom was at work.

I don't remember a thing about it; I was all of 3 months old.

It was a sunny temperate day at the Naval Radio Station in
Northwest, Virigina. I was waxing my brand new Chevelle
Malibu Super Sport, the first Chevelle in that part of
the state. The radio was on and I heard them break into
the music with news of the shooting. As sailor friends of
mine left the barracks, they stopped at the car and a
group of us listened to the news. It was a shock. But
the mournful music got to be very tiring after a few days.
It was a relief to get on with life.

I was in my fourth grade class when the principal announced over the intercom that the President had been shot. A few minutes later the fourth and fifth grade classes were sent to the music room, the only room with a tv. I remember watching, and at some point turning around and in the back of the room I saw several teachers with tears streaming down their faces.
