I had no desire to see it, but now I do. I trust your daughter as a movie critic, and a social commentater.

The Daughter: (can't stand the word 'nully') Oh no- I don't mean to be posting again, I don't want it to become habit, but i had to complain a bit more about Harry. So, my opinion of the movie...

Well now, that's a tuffy. I'll have to say it wasn't bad, but not quite worthy of a flat out "good." I'm not saying 'not bad' as it is most often heard, not like "hey, thats not bad!" but more like "it could've been worse" You must realize that "not bad" is a huge compliment.
It stayed close to the actual text, and it was five miles better than the first movie, but it still wasn't quite it. The car wasn't right, and the Weasly house wasn't what I'd expected.
As a movie itself it was almost good, but If they had asked me I could've done a better job on some things. Like the mandrakes, It would've been a good touch if they had done that scene trhough the ears of the student not the audience.
That scene is when the children are uprooting these little plants that look like deformed babies with hair that pokes out of the dirt, like a carrot almost. The plant, when full grown, has a scream so loud it can kill you. The babies, however, will only kock you out. So, the students must use earmuffs when they handle them. The movie let you hear the plants scream, but it would have been much, much better if they had muted it, so it was like you were a student as well. Just a little idea i had...
The spider scene was good, the flashback through the diary was okay, and I rather liked the ending. The movie didn't give you the same feeling though, the potion wasn't explained well, and certain vital scenes were left out. You have to read the book to not like the movie, i guess...

Now lets complain about the characters- Gilderoy Lockeheart was awful! He wasn't half as big headed as he was in the book, and he wasn't handsom. I pictured him to be a bit more like a blonde superman with Elvis like hair, the little swirl thing. He wasn't right, he didn't fit, I didn't like him. Infact, I hated Lockeheart's actor...
And Arnold Weasley +shudders+ I like the actor,(Peterson from Red Dwarf, a british si-fi comedy(ask dad for details)) but not as Mr. Weasley. And Ron wasn't right (no long nose, and the hair's not red enough), but he's not new.
I didn't much like Fudge, but he was suitable. Not what I pictured, but it was forgivable.
Now this one deserves a paragraph of its own. I loved Tom Riddle. Not because he was the young lord voldemort, but because he was near perfect, and by far the most true to the book. I was delighted with him. The actor (I'll have to find out who it is) did the job perfectly, and looked the part as well. The hair was a bit off if judged by how I pictured him, but he was great otherwise. My favorite...
Lucious Malfoy was okay, not how I pictured him as well, but I never did have a clear image of him anyway. Dobby was wrong, all wrong. First off, I always thought of him as green. I'll have to check the book on that one though. He didn't have a squashed tomato nose, and his eyes weren't enough. Ginny was okay I guess, though we didn't see enough of her.
Lets complain about the returning characters now. Harry himself was a disgrace to the book. I think Daniel did a good job playing him, but looking him? As far as know harry had very messy jet black hair, and large pretty green eyes. The movie harry has slightly mussed brown hair, not dark or light brown, just brown hair and plain blue eyes. Not to mention his glasses weren't quite right.
I've already done ron, lets do hermione. Emma Watson's going to be too pretty for her, as she gets older. And the hair people didn't do her right, her hair looks more "crimped" than curly. I imagined bushes of ringlets. Dumbledor was okay, but not great. Hagrid looked the part well enough, but there's something missing.
McGonagal was horrible. The actress is good, but in the book she wasn't old. I understand it was the "maggie smith"(that might not be right, but it's late and my brain's gone to sleep) but she was't right for her. Snape's good, but once again not what i pictured.
This is the last one, I've really got to wrap this up, it was supposed to be a short post. Malfoy. Draco Malfoy, oh I have to talk about him. He's nearly perfect, but somethings missing, and that something throws him off completly. I'm not sure what it is though.(Dad says his eyes arn't narrow enough) The actor himself isn't mean enough, when he's talking you suddenly remember its a movie, and start to think about reality again. He's acting the part but he doesn't feel it, so that you don't really want to hate him. Your supposed to loathe malfoy...
Okay, this is the end. Good bye...

BRAVO!!! ... Oh and I like the name Nully. It's cute, but I guess you don't think of your dad as cute huh?? .. LOL

As for the habbit thing .. too late, you already posted on FR and it automatically becomes an addiction .. trust me, you'll be back ..

I have to admit I bought the books for my daughter Jessie but have not read them myself. However, you do have my curiosity going, so maybe I will sit down to read them soon.

Thank you for your honest opinion, I am so amazed at such a wonderful and intellegent mind you have. And don't let others take away your enjoyment of books and of life. They have nothing better to do then find something to complain about. I think it's an old age thang .. not that I would know anything about .. LOL

I don't know.... should I see the second movie without ever reading the books or seeing the first movie? That almost sounds rebellious.... I ought to do it just to enhance my self-image. *L* I'll bet no one else guessed that Harry Potter was all about me - but I figured it out all by myself without any evidence.
