Careful, bucko. There were more 'there' than just you. I followed EVERY minute of this event. I am also an Oregonian. And the media SO over-hyped this event that they created a crisis. The protestors deserved EVERY drop of pepper spray aimed at them. Every drop. Bleeding heart liberals with kumbaya on their lips and hatred for reality and logic in their hearts.
They are aging hippies/dissident college students/nomadics/PETA freaks/tree-sitters/envirowackonazis/frustrated suburbanites who think that THEY are the only ones who know the true path to enlightenment. Your cop-bashing is B.S. Pure and simple B.S.

I have OFTEN critizized the Portland, Salem and Eugene authorities for soft shoeing with the anarchist vandals and enviro-whacko trespassers. Tre Arrow should have been washed off the downtown building with a fire hose. The black maskers who started the riots in Seattle should have been arrested immediately, rather than allowing them to do their dirty work until the entire downtown was engulfed in rioting. The thing is, I will not advocate fascist brutality from the police just because I don't like the politics of the group involved in the protest. I want swift police action when criminal activity occurs. I don't want head busting just for the sake of punishing people I don't like.

That's fine. You can revel in head busting if you like, but don't be surprised when you are on the receiving end in the future. Now, if you can provide any evidence that the police reacted with violence as a valid response to aggression by the crowd, fine. I'll concede and place the blame on the stinking communist protesters. However, if you are simply backing the cops because of your animosity for the unbathed greenies, then it is you who is taking the immoral, and ultimately dangerous position.

We who want to rid corruption in government need to rid corruption in people. Corrupt politicians are those who have abandoned the principles upon which this country was founded in order to protect or enhance their status (power). Corrupt individuals abandone what is right (morally) for that which enhances, well, nothing positive in their lives.
Laws, a constitution, and a bill of rights have failed to keep the politicians and courts in check, what chance will laws, a constitution and a bill of rights have in steering individuals toward this enlightened state?

When the cops say back up---and start moving TOWARDS the crowd........and the crowd refuses.....and surges AT the cops....then let the pepper spray. Seems quite cause/effect to me. Perhaps you should study further the tactics of this Tre arrow crowd. Confrontation for the sake of publicity IS the goal. And if confrontation is not occuring fast enough for these idiots....they will escalate the situation for the cameras.
