Has Gran ever given you her meatball recipe? I tried them yesterday and they are awesome. I call them "Grannie's Magnificent Meatballs". :)

Good morning, or good afternoon all, depending on what time zone you are in...for me its still morning....

Quite an upheaval over the weekend, concerning FR, JimRobinson, BADJOE, Palos decisions about staying or leaving, etc. etc.etc....as someone said in a movie, tho I cannot remember which one or who said it, but he said, "May you live in interesting times"...well, it seems we are living in interesting times, right here on FR....(if anyone knows where that quote comes from, please let me know, my addled brain cannot remember, and its driving me crazy)

As to Grans marvelous question to JimRob, good going Gran...very astute of you....do not have time now to read the whole thread, and everyones posts, but will do that in a little while...I am not really 'political' either, as Gran has put it, just know what I believe in...that thread will be read later on today, when I have a little more time...

BigDom has just returned a few moments ago, from his big weekend up in Tacoma....he had a great time, eating Barbque, with the Vets, at the Amvets shindig, and got to see some great antique cars....gave him a chance to shmooze with his fellow military vets....he quite enjoys that, as he has so little free time, what with being involved with working so much at the trusty post office, and then taking me places, helping me drink beer, eat treats, and break chairs, and whatever else mischief we can get into...

So a weekend alone, without me, and with his fellow military vets, is indeed a pleasure for him...

He then proceeded on to the biker bar, and schmoozed with the bikers, and hoisted a few with them...no problems whatsoever....

Yesterday he spent recuperating from his Saturday fun...he just watched his sports and relaxed...his big sports thrill yesterday, with the Little League World Championship, which USA won, with Louisville, Ky beating Japan 1-0...Go USA...it was a great game, with some great little players...its always heartbreaking for the side which looses...as was evidenced by the whole of the Japanese team in tears...but we must always remember, even tho these games are telecast on national TV, and even tho these players do try to act tough, underneath it all they are still children....and you could not help but be so proud to see Louisville win, but at the same time, be saddened by the sight of the whole Japanese team crying....lessons of childhood often come hard, in order to prepare us for adulthood...and losing such an important game, teaches one of lifes hardest lessons...that often, defeat precedes success, in whatever endeavor one may try....but that on another day, the outcome of the game may have been different...Kudos to all the Little League players and to their coaches for giving us all a thrilling game....

On the subject of our dear Palo...I hope she returns...I miss my fix of daily Lulu reports....of how Happy and 'he'(Bill) are doing....of what is going on in Palos life....

Hi Mom :-)

Nice to hear BigDom had a great trip and no brawls too!! I think we all wish Palo the best of good feelings and if she returns, she knows that she is welcome with open arms.It wil be up to her.I just hope you don't lose the passion you have for your storytelling if you don't get a treat in the form of a basset report ;-)

AC....had never looked at your profile page before, so did so today....first off, for some reason, I never realized you were an Englishman...

My son lived in England for almost a year, living in London, while he attended school at Imperial College for his third year of college...he loved living in England, tho his main complaint was the food, I guess...just did not care for English fare...but the Safeway store, near his lodgings kept him in full supply of American foods(especially his beloved Chips Ahoy Chocolate Chip cookies), so he was ok with that...

But he traveled as much as he could in England and the British Isles, and found the whole area to be quite delightful....even the weather did not bother him much, as its so much like our weather here in the Pacific Northwest...it was much like being 'home', weatherwise...he spent a good deal of time in England, Ireland, and Scotland(his favorite being the Isle of Skye)...

He has been back to England several times since then, on business when he was working for a company here in the states, so it was almost like coming 'home' to return there...he met many wonderful fellow students at Imperial College, and to this day is still good friends with them, they putting him up for a few weeks at the end of his world trip....

He even convinced a few of them to come to America for a visit...they said they had never thought of visiting America, but after meeting Andy, with his tales of America, they felt they should visit....so a band of about 4 of them flew out to the west coast, Los Angeles, and slowly made their way up to Washington, sightseeing along the way...one of their favorite places was Las Vegas...oh, they loved Vegas...

On their trip up this way, for some reason or another they lost Andys phone number up in Seattle, but they had our phone number down here in Olympia, so they gave me a call for Andys info, and we had a wonderful chat...they were so sweet, and enthused about being in America, and had nothing but kind things to say about America and Americans....they said, it was solely because of Andy that they came here, and were sure glad they did...they said they would not like to live here, as England was their home, but that they would have regretted it always, if they had not made the trip....

They stayed with Andy up in Seattle for about a week, and to hear Andy tell it, they had a grand time, and Andy was thrilled to show off his hometown area....

Seeing as your screenname is ACNielsenguy, I dont why I never mentionned this before, my BigDoms uncle worked all his life for ACNielsen....first in Chicago, and then in 1972, he was transfered to Florida, where he worked until he retired, and still resides in Florida....ACNielsen provided him with a wonderful living, and he always loved working for them...

As to your quote on your website, about always having questions in life, always seeking....that so reminds me of my dad....when he took ill, and died, it was up to me, to go through his things....he was so interested in life, in everything, and had so many projects started, but never got finished because of his illness..I had mentioned to Andy, that how sad, that 'Pop-Pop', as the boys called him, never had time to finish those projects...Andy just looked at me and said, "Ah, you know Pop-Pop, he could have lived to be 100 yrs old, and he would have still had projects going, books left to read, questions left to be answered"...it was only severe illness and death that stopped him from enjoying lifes adventures...
