"That "if only" thread needs to be abandoned and nuked" I agree. That thread just got too depressing to keep reading after awhile. Now it's like "the whine that wouldn't die."
To: Mo1
I think if the thread was nuked and everyone cooled off for a few days, things might be able to get worked out. The present course isn't working - but then I haven't read the thread for several hours, so maybe it took a turn.
To: ValerieUSA
Val .. even if the thread was nuked .. the AFers would still come back and it would be the same thing on another thread
I like Badjoe alot but I will admit this thread surprised me

Have a soothing picture... God is good, but sometimes looking or evidence of that in people is too hard and you need to look elsewhere. *L*

The whine became so petulant it reminded me too much of arguing with my kids... and I hate that.

The is just beautiful Val ..

Released on bail -- good thing they take such charges so seriously. I wonder if the victim was male or female; must have been a boy since it wasn't mentioned:
Weatherford College police chief indicted on sexual charges
Sat Aug 24, 7:36 AM ET
By GALE BRADFORD, Special to the Star-Telegram
The chief of the Weatherford College police force was indicted this week on charges of aggravated sexual assault of a child and indecency with a child.
David Michael Stewart, 43, of Weatherford is accused of having oral sex and sexual contact with a child younger than 14 in February 1999, according to the indictment, which a Parker County grand jury returned Thursday.
Stewart surrendered to authorities Friday and was released from the Parker County Jail on $25,000 bail.
Neither Stewart nor his attorney, Charles Bradford, returned messages Friday asking for comment.

Okay, this is a sad story - a man has died. But really, did they have to have spokesman Fish tell us about fishing him out of the drink? *L*
Man killed after driving off open Ballard Bridge
Saturday, August 24, 2002 Last updated at 10:32:00 PM PT
THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
A 30-year-old man was killed early Saturday when he slowly drove his pickup truck through a construction site and off the end of a partially raised drawbridge.
"It was a clearly marked, closed construction area," Seattle Police spokesman Duane Fish said. "He crashed through that and plunged into the water."
The King County Medical Examiner's Office identified the man as Mark Yozamp, a Seattle resident.
A work crew was performing maintenance on the Ballard Bridge, which crosses the Lake Washington Ship Canal, and witnessed the crash. A flagger reportedly ran alongside the man's truck and yelled at him to stop. The man instead drove around several construction barriers and through a flashing red-and-white gate that blocked access to the open part of the bridge, which was raised about 30 degrees.
His vehicle plunged 100 feet, landed upside-down in the water and sank immediately, Fish said. Divers determined the man was alone.
A crane from the construction site raised the vehicle and the body Saturday morning.
Fish said police were investigating whether the man had been drinking or using drugs.

Thanks for the Crawford FReep link - I join you in feeling guilty in not arranging things so I could attend and participate in supporting our President.

Good morning, JL. I missed BADJOE's exit, as well. I visited the "If Only" thread a few times, but was dismayed by what I read there, so haven't been back. It is sad, it seems that many FReepers have left, or are leaving.

This is a dull time of year.
Summer is mostly over, it is too hot to do anything, the kids are just getting back in school, we are at a 'phony war' quiet spot in the war on terrorism and comming up on a mid term election that is intensely boring because so few seats are actually in contention.
We are bored, burned out and up for nothing more than petty bickering and personal sniping.
It is showing up not just on FR, but in the country as a whole.

You make an excellent point. I've just been too busy to notice, or to join in. There is a lot to be said for having a lot to do. It is at least distracting.
