Probably so. As it turned out, he had had some other "instances" in the past but no one had pursued a prosecution before. In part because they didn't have a stalker law to charge him with. I pursued it, I wasn't about to let that stuff go unpunished. The Judge and the DA were wonderful and as hard on him as the law allowed them to be.

Texas having problems with their history books??

Texas History Books Get Second Look
By CONNIE MABIN
.c The Associated Press

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - Dozens of citizens on Wednesday debated the accuracy of hundreds of history textbooks the state is considering purchasing for its public schools.

Texas, with 4.1 million students, is the nation's second-largest buyer of textbooks behind California. Its selection of new social studies books every eight years is closely watched by other districts in the nation.

Among 67 people who testified at Wednesday's state Board of Education hearing, Jennifer Powell said she believes Abraham Lincoln was given short shrift in some books. Margie Raborn said she wants all U.S. government books to describe the United States as a republic based on biblical beliefs.

Maricela Flores, a college student, believes the books need more information about minorities and women, particularly in a state that is 35 percent Hispanic.

``As our population changes, as the numbers increase, we need to recognize that our buying power and our voting power is very important,'' she said.

The elected Board of Education has no say over textbook content, but can reject books because of errors or failure to follow the state curriculum, which is mandated by the Legislature.

The state will spend $344.7 million on the textbooks, which will be used in classrooms in 2003. It will make its final decisions on the books in November.

Members of conservative groups said they found hundreds of fact errors in history books and believe some books are anti-American, anti-Christian and anti-conservative.

An example of a ``mistake'' cited in a Texas Public Policy Foundation review: Proposed books fail to say that Indian tribes were as much to blame as fur traders and tourists for wiping out the great buffalo herds of the Plains by shooting the animals for sport.

An organization that says it monitors the religious right said conservatives are misusing the law to push their beliefs on Texas students.

``I believe attempts to force personal religious beliefs and morality upon the rest of us are undemocratic and un-American,'' said Dick Collins, of the Texas Freedom Network.

what did he say?

I wasnt listening closely. I just heard he and Marta watched the DVD and found it interesting. He said not to miss any part because everything was important to the story (proved to be true) and not to pay too much attention to the cryogenic part (timely with the Ted Williams story). He thought it had a good message about making choices.

Darlin', I have some idea of how you felt being stalked. It happened to me too when I was stationed at El Toro. There had been a series of rapes in the neighborhoods off the I 5 and Red Hill. The perp would watch homes and when the hubby left, this creep would break in the homes ( cut screens) and rape the house wife, threaten to kill the kids etc.

Well one sunday night after I had returned from Yuma, I pulled into my parking space. I noticed some guy walking past and he did not belong in my complex ( this was down the drive in the back of the complex). I got out of my car and walked as fast as I could in the opposite direction of my apt to take the long way as he was too close to my apt as it was...well the jerk turned and followed me. I got inot my apt and threw the lock just in the nick of time. I had sheer curtains on the front window and the drapes hooked back and had no time to drop them..But i did not turn on my lights, I got behind my floor screen ( from Hong Kong) and peeked through the little slat only to see him looking in my window. But because the house was dark, he was not sure what apt I went into. Then the next night he was back again. I called my neighbor, a big guy, and told him what had happened. He at first thought I was being a little overreactive until the following night when someone looked in his window to his bedroom ( he had an end unit and mine was right next to his..we were on the ground level). then the next day he called to see if I had heard anything and I did not. We both went out to look in the garden which had been freshly raked out the day before only to see the footprints placed as one would stand if one were looking in the window. so we notified the managers of the apt and for the next several weeks we were on pins and needles until the rapist was caught. Then all this crap stopped at our complex too...too close for comfort. did I wish I had a gun at that point..you damn betcha.

I had BIG problems with the social studies and science textbooks for 4th grade in Washington, and made a lot of complaints -- not sure anyone heard. We moved to Texas just after that... (that's not why *L*)
The political correctness in the reading book made the thing so BORING that it's a wonder any kid will ever want to read a book again after that nonsense. All of the material was riddled with enviro-wacko nonsense (global warming as fact throughout the books -- man as evil plunderer of nature, etc...)

In fact, someone did steal my boxes. About sixty dollars worth, left over from our previous move to this apartment. There is a storage room where each of us has an assigned area, but is accessible to the other tenants. The last lovely couple to move out must have taken them because there were there until Billy and Robin moved out. I had to go scrounge some more. I'm trying to pack a little every day, so I was stuffing sweaters and coats into the large boxes. Hubby was packing some of his books. We only have about two weeks left til we move. Yay!
