Actually, lasagne is easy to make, just takes time and shuffling the ingredients around....
Many people use cottage cheeses, instead of ricotta, but I dont care for it that way....
Adding meatballs and yummy italian sausages also sounds yummy....
I agree, frying meatballs, is a Key step...

You know I use those NO BOILING NEEDED Lasagna noodles now Mom. I was reluctant to use them at first..but one of my sisters tried them..she talked another one into trying them, then that sister convinced me I should try them...you use less noodles coz they expand pretty well..and they cook up nice and tender..and save lotz of time.

death produces so much guilt cause we think if we had done more we coulda saved them
(this is not true) (but we all feel it)
your hubby's dad might have suffered from that after war
he does sound like a sensitive caring man
guilt will drive you nuts tho, maybe that was why he was upset
he must have been a beautiful person inside and out, cause your hubby is so lovely
(the acorn does not fall far from the tree)

one of bill's early jobs was in a factory in downtown manhattan
the guy he worked with used to put sliced hard boiled eggs and slices of salami in his lasagna
but I never tried it that way

The thread is a little slow now, so I will tell my second fudge story(tho some may have heard it already)...remember, my first story was about the time I got the salt and sugar mixed up, and the resulting fudge was brick hard, and salty as the Dead Sea...
Here is the second fudge story, I promised to tell..
When I was around 10-12 yrs old, and my little brother a few years younger, mom decided to treat us all to some fudge, for an after dinner snack....she had made it before dinner and was allowing it to cool and set up, so it would be ready for the evening....
After dinner, we cleared the table, did the dishes, cleaned the kitchen and all went into the front room to watch TV...Mom apparently at that time, placed her yummy plate of chocolate fudge, several layers deep, in the middle of the kitchen table...
We watched a few TV programs, and then mom told us to all go into the kitchen and grab a few slices of fudge...so of course, me, little brother and dad all ran into the kitchen to get our stash of fudge for more TV watching...
The fudge was yummy....we all ate it quickly, and then settled down to watch more TV...mom then went into the kitchen to get her slices of fudge...
All of a sudden, we heard this terrible scream, and mom came bounding into the front room, spewing vile language she rarely ever used, and calling me, little brother and dad a bunch of dirty rotten, blankety-blank pigs...she claimed that we had eaten all but about 2 or 3 pieces of fudge...
Well, of course we all denied it, saying we had each only taken a few pieces...but she was in tears by now, and so upset...
About that time, the family pet, Jingles, a sweet, wonderful, honey blonde cocker spaniel, came into the front room, and he was making that awful sound that all dog owners recognize as the forerunnner to your dog upchucking all over....
Jingles just stood there, opened his mouth, and threw up a huge amount of stuff...all dark brown in color, and still retaining a little bit of chocolaty smell...that dog had apparently gotten up on a kitchen chair, that was somewhat pulled back from the kitchen table, and he then, seduced by the smell of that wonderful fudge, climbed up on the kitchen table, and ate all of it, save the pieces that me, dad and little brother had gotten beforehand...he left 2-3 pieces, either because he was just too full, or as we like to believe, he was generous enough to leave mom a few pieces for herself...
Well, we laughed and laughed...that dog made an absolute hog of himself, eating almost 3lbs of fudge, in one sitting...being that it was chocolate, its surprising he did not die, as the vets today tell us that chocolate can be deadly for dogs...
Of course, mom never yelled at Jingles, as she yelled at us...her sweet Jingles could do no wrong...and she did apologize for calling us pigs, and swearing at us...
But that event lived in our memories forever...
Jingles, by the time he was 10 had become deaf and blind...but as long as we kept things where they belonged, he could feel his way around, and we all gladly helped him through his infirmities...
However, when he turned 13, his kidneys gave out, and we knew it was time to have him euthanized...we were all heartbroken, at our fudge-eating dogs demise, but we knew it had to be...
Mom and dad took him to the vets...mom could not bear to go in, and she sat in the car, waiting, and in tears...she kissed Jingles goodbye, hugged him for so long, and then dad took him out of the car...
Dad let him sniff around as much as he wanted, as it would be his last sniffing episode, and dad wanted him to have a good one...finally Jingles looked towards dad, with eyes that could not see, as if to say he was ready....
Dad reached into his pocket, got something out, and gave to his dear Jingles, along with a kiss...what did dad give to Jingles? Why a piece of chocolate fudge, of course...My dear, sweet sentimental dad, with the big rough hands, and the big booming voice, remembered his Jingles and his love affair with the fudge, and gladly gave him just one more piece, which he had bought beforehand, to ease Jingles in his time of need...
Dad took Jingles in, held him while the vet gave him the shot, and Jingles was gone...our whole family was devastated, and it was the first time, that I could remember, that death had taken its toll on our family...
Jingles, you were loved, and you are still missed today...

Thats good to know about the NO BOIL noodles...I have always really been hesitant about them...but now I will try them....boiling Lasagne noodles, is really the worst part of making lasagne...and then trying to layer them while they are still somewhat hot from the boiling is a chore...
So I guess, I should just get over myself, and give in and try those NO BOIL noodles...I bet, once I try them, I will like them...
Thanks for that info...
To: palo verde
Hard boiled eggs and Salami in the Lasagne...well, thats not for me, but I think thats what is great about lasagne...One can put in there, whatever one likes...as long as you have noodles, your cheeses, and sauces, and just build layer upon layer, you can put in there whatever you like, and still call it lasagne...

your story bout Jingles and the fudge is hilarious andysmom
altho the second half is heart breaking
habs is right, you are our own Jean Sheperd
my friend in the east village had gotten box of chocolates for christmas present
each piece was wrapped exquisitely in fancy tissue paper
it was very fancy chocolates
when she returned from her errands
the exquisite wrapping paper was all over the floor and all the chocolates were eaten
she said she stood at the doorway put her hands on her hips
said to her dog
''I am appalled''
To: andysandmikesmom
of course he used italian salami cause he was italian man

Well, I do wish you would get some rain...I looked at the weather forecast for Tucscon, and it does indicate, that indeed you might be in for some rain over the next several days...tho the temps will be high, 110 or so for the next several days...
I also checked the weather forecast for Death Valley...man its hot there...124 for today and tomorrow, 122 for Thursday, and then it will go down to 115 or so by the weekend...they also may have a little rain...
Those are some awfully hot temps...
To: palo verde
"I am appalled"...LOL...thats just priceless...
I guess if dogs could talk, that dog would have said something to the effect of, "OK, be appalled, but my tummy is happy".....
To: palo verde
Salami?? yes...Hard boiled eggs?? Nahhh.

I am surprised I came up with a snappy reply....usually, when a snappy quick reply is needed, my mind goes blank...but this just popped into my mind for some reason...
Guess I was thinking like a dog...
To: andysandmikesmom
lol I too have never come up with snappy reply at the time it was called for
my mind goes blank
rofl maybe you were more quick witted when you thought like a dog
cause the reply rolled right off your tongue

looks like I wont be going over to that brand new libertarian site which opened up
it seemed like good solution for me
the guy who started it is lovely man and dedicated libertarian
I thought I'd post on libertarian threads there and not rile freepers
but the posters there are much more political than I am
I put saving the republic from clinton ahead of everything else in my life
that is accomplished
nothing in news now is real to me at all
whew! big wind started blowing up
it scared Happy
oh it just slammed the door
Happy panicked
it is blowing big time
I dont know why he rushed into yard
now he is rushing back
if he would only sit tight under my desk, he'd feel secure
Lulu is lying flat froggie with her ears out to the sides
she could care less
Love, Palo
