Don't throw rocks, but I actually liked Thin Red Line. Not the first time, but the dozen times afterwards on the $5.99 bargain tape I bought from my video store. Pretentious, yes, self-indulgent, yes, John Travolta as the least convincing general ever, yes, but I ...I ...am utterly fascinated by this film, the way I am with Kubrick's Barry Lyndon.

Now, Moulin Rouge... as God is my witness, I will spend the rest of my waking days searching this Earth for the director of this film. When I find him, I will rip off the arm of the guy that played Toulouse Latrec and beat said director to death with it.

"The Sound of Music" is one of my all-time favorites, so I must disagree on that one.

I agree on "Moulin Rouge." Only could make it through about 20 minutes or so--that was all I could take. Ridiculous.

Another Academy-Award-nominated movie that I thought was an absolute stinker was "American Beauty." What a depressing piece of crap.
