Whazzup with this new posting format ? Do we really need all this stuff cluttering up the page ? We're not doing footnotes for a doctorial thesis or diplomatic language in a missile defense treaty here. We're simply posting personal opinions on an internet forum for God's sake. Why draw out and complicate the process ? The old format was user friendly and efficient. Sorry, but the old format we were using last year at this time was the best, the most FReeper Friendly. Yes, that was also when we still had the taglines that so many of us used, appreciated and would very much like to see reinstated.

Why Are Things The Way They Are?
During my junior year in high school, Mr. Reynolds, my English teacher, handed each student a list of thoughts or statements written by other students then gave us a creative writing assignment based on one of those thoughts. At 17, I was beginning to wonder about many things, so I chose the statement, "I wonder why things are the way they are?"
That night, I wrote down in the form of a story all the questions that puzzled me about life. I realized that many of them were hard to answer, and perhaps others couldn't be answered at all. When I turned in my paper, I was afraid that I might fail the assignment because I had not answered the question, "I wonder why things are the way they are?" I had no answers. I had only written questions.
The next day Mr. Reynolds called me to the front of the class and asked me to read my story for the other students. He handed me my paper and sat down in the back of the room. The class became quiet as I began to read my story.
Mommie, Daddy........Why?
Mommie, why are the roses red?
Mommie, why is the grass green and the sky blue?
Why does a spider have a web and not a house?
Daddy, why can't I play in your toolbox?
Teacher, why do I have to read?
Mother, why can't I wear lipstick to the dance?
Daddy, why can't I stay out until 12:00? The other kids can.
Daddy, why don't the boys like me?
Why do I have to be so skinny?
Why do I have braces and wear glasses?
Why do I have to be 16?
Mom, why do I have to graduate?
Dad, why do I have to grow up?
Mom, Dad, why do I have to leave?
Mom, why don't you write more often?
Dad, why do I miss my old friends?
Dad, why do you love me so much?
Dad, why do you spoil me? Your little girl is growing up.
Mom, why don't you visit?
Mom, why is it hard to make new friends?
Dad, why do I miss being at home?
Dad, why does my heart skip a beat when he looks in my eyes?
Mom, why do my legs tremble when I hear his voice?
Mother, why is being "in love" the greatest feeling in the world?
Daddy, why don't you like to be called "Gramps"?
Mother, why do my baby's tiny fingers cling so tightly to mine?
Mother, why do they have to grow up?
Daddy, why do they have to leave?
Why do I have to be called "Grannie"?
Mommie, Daddy, why did you have to leave me? I need you.
Why did my youth slip past me?
Why does my face show every smile that I have ever given to a friend or a stranger?
Why does my hair glisten a shiny silver?
Why do my hands quiver when I bend to pick a flower?
Why, God, are the roses red?
At the conclusion of my story, my eyes locked with Mr. Reynold's eyes, and I saw a tear slowly sliding down his cheek. It was then that I realized that life is not always based on the answers we receive, but also on the questions that we ask.

It's funny how even after 9/11 some people haven't figured out that airline pilots fly huge planes loaded with jet fuel that can become bombs if the person at the controls was unskilled, unsteady, unstable or had ill intent. They let them fly the planes anyway, but don't want to let them have guns (HOW SCARY!) to protect them from a hijacker because..... Why? They don't trust the pilots to be steady? To have good judgement? To be quick? To be righteous? If you can't trust him with a gun, then you had better not trust him with an airplane either.

Moving Thoughts
Maybe God wants us to meet a few wrong people before meeting the right one so that when we finally meet the right person, we will know how to be grateful for that gift.
When the door of happiness closes, another opens, but often times we look so long at the closed door that we don't see the one which has been opened for us.
The best kind of friend is the kind you can sit on a porch and swing with, never say a word, and then walk away feeling like it was the best conversation you've ever had.
It's true that we don't know what we've got until we lose it, but it's also true that we don't know what we've been missing until it arrives.
Giving someone all your love is never an assurance that they'll love you back! Don't expect love in return; just wait for it to grow in their heart but if it doesn't, be content it grew in yours. It takes only a minute to get a crush on someone, an hour to like someone, and a day to love someone, but it takes a lifetime to forget someone.
Don't go for looks; they can deceive. Don't go for wealth; even that fades away. Go for someone who makes you smile because it takes only a smile to make a dark day seem bright. Find the one that makes your heart smile.
There are moments in life when you miss someone so much that you just want to pick them from your dreams and hug them for real!
Dream what you want to dream; go where you want to go; be what you want to be, because you have only one life and one chance to do all the things you want to do. May you have enough happiness to make you sweet, enough trials to make you strong, enough sorrow to keep you human, enough hope to make you happy.
Always put yourself in others' shoes. If you feel that it hurts you, it probably hurts the other person, too.
The happiest of people don't necessarily have the best of everything; they just make the most of everything that comes along their way.
Happiness lives for those who cry, those who hurt, those who have searched, and those who have tried, for only they can appreciate the importance of people who have touched their lives. Love begins with a smile, grows with a kiss and ends with a tear. The brightest future will always be based on a forgotten past, you can't go on well in life until you let go of your past failures and heartaches.
When you were born, you were crying and everyone around you was smiling. Live your life so that when you die, you're the one who is smiling and everyone around you is crying.

I can't say I'm much of a soccer fan but I have a lot of pride in the success our U.S. Team is enjoying. They've come a long way from their last World Cup appearance and they've done it without much hoopla or support from the Ameerican public. They're set to play the very good German team in the quarterfinals unfortunately in the wee hours of tonight/tomorrow.
U.S. set to face another hostile crowd

First, Let's Test You For Drug Use
Val, you should have told us that you were moonlighting as Chicken Little a drug court judge.
Let your kids read that article, and then tell them how fortunate they are, that the good fascist Judge isn't their guardian. Search first, then figure out if there is a question to be asked later... Do these judges even know what the Constitution is, much less actually issuing rulings which adhere to it??
To: ValerieUSA
EXACTLY. As we learned on 9-11 our pilots were, indeed, flying weapons of mass destruction. We trust the lives of millions of passengers to pilots every day and yet some people think they nmight get trigger happy and endanger a plane load of passengers. Which is more dangerous to passengers or to those of us on the ground ... an armed pilot on the scene assessing the threat and exercising his experinced judgement or the judgement of an F-16 pilot who has to rely on second-hand assessment and the judgement of others about whether or not to shoot the plane out of the sky ?

Yikes - this guy is a lunatic! He must be on drugs!
I firmly believe half the people in the country between 20 and 40 "use" illegal drugs.
To: gratefulwharffratt
Do these judges even know what the Constitution is, much less actually issuing rulings which adhere to it?? If this idiot is right and half of all citizens are frug users, and he very well may be, then that proves that the drug laws must be thrown out before we have a civil war.

Yeah, right. I've seen the pictures, swerve. You and two ripe frugs....

Gonna change your handle to sinsinattykidd?

That judge may or may not be right about how many people use illegal drugs. My first thought was that that's ridiculous. On second thought, it may not be so absurd. I know that when I was skydiving, a large proportion of the other divers were into various & sundry drugs (my drug of choice was, and is, alcohol). Now, i would be shocked and amazed if the people that my hubby and I hang with these days used illegal drugs.

If his gripe is with meth users, he's got the ages wrong - more like between 35 - 60
To: gratefulwharffratt
Yet another ratty hit-and-run?
To: ValerieUSA
I have no clue who uses what drugs - I have no way to evaluate this judges statement that half the population uses illegal drugs. But I do believe he has no understanding of the constitution (I read the article).
