Well, he passed away over the weekend. Really a freak thing; a sinus infection that somehow triggered a fungal infection of the brain.
His funeral is tomorrow at 11:00; I will be singing with the funeral choir.
From his obituary:
Duke had a generous spirit and was a humanitarian at heart. His family and friends enjoyed his quick wit and sense of humor. We will especially remember all the joy he brought to our lives as he regaled us with stories of past exploits. Duke will be greatly missed by all.
To give you an idea of how big-hearted this guy was; he owned 35 Packers season tickets, and never went to the games himself. Gave them all away to family and friends.
I'll never forget his hearty greeting of "Good morning, Mary!" as I arrived for daily Mass several times a week; he would already be hard at work but never failed to stop what he was doing to greet me.He teased me a lot about my foot this spring but always with a sense of caring. I will miss him.
Prayers offered for you and for Duke's spirit as he sits by the right hand of God.
I remember from the time I spent in New Orleans:
Winter? Oh, yeah, I remember that day.
Good to see you today.
Sad news... My aunt Darlene died during kidney treatment yesterday.
We'll be heading to Milwaukee for the funeral on Thursday.
She was a jovial sort. She and her husband continued to take care of their 50+ year old daughter, who was born with Downe's Syndrome.
She always tells the story that after they had discovered their daughter Mary had Downes, and the Doctors had recommended Mary be institutionalized. My aunt Dar called the recommended institution, and they said, "When can we pick it up?" They decided to raise Mary at that point.
She will be missed.
Prayers for you too! May God lift you up and keep you during your time of sorrow.
Mom recovered from her eye surgery quite well but then she saw a pulmonary specialist yesterday who thinks she may have congestive heart failure. Mom is terrified because this is what Dad died of.
Nothing is certain; he wants her to have tons of tests. She is tired and depressed and did not need this news right now.
Her primary doctor thinks she has an area of congestion in her lung; but the pulmonary specialist said she does not, and that it must be CHF causing her symptoms.
My sister, who is a nurse, and her hubby, a doctor, are monitoring the situation and will do what they can to make sure she receives the proper care. In the meantime we wait, and pray....and pray...and pray.......
Playing catch up.
so sorry to hear the news.
Prayers sent your way!
This must be the week for losing loved ones.
Prayers sent your way.
What wonderful memories. We are often blessed with angels among us.
In a cool year...
You have been blessed by God. The "veil" is very thin between God and your boys. I pray they will always be so keenly attune to spiritual matters.
God love you! They have a great teacher and example in you!
You're wise to take any report on Global Warming with caution. Just not enough emperical knowledge, nor time elapsed, to really make a sound decision one way or the other. (I tend to err on the side of caution.)
Great book out called, The Skeptical Environmentalist, by Bjorn Lomborg. He concedes there might be global warming, but scoffs at the idea that man is the main contributor to it.
He is being raped by the "environmentalists" which tells me it must be pretty darn good.
